Block Island Race - Cat 3 w/ Life Raft

Backstay, never bought a suit, never went to Vegas
I'm missing this year. Getting my rotator cuff done in a couple weeks, and can't risk what's left of it. Did full crew last year -- but was going back to DH this year till the shoulder exploded. ABI is the definition of a perfect DH.

Did my rotator cuff last July; make sure you really dedicate yourself to the physical therapy. I'm permamently retired from the bow now, and not missing it one bit. Middle spot on the Etchells is much easier and trimming on bigger boats.
they keep telling me that. but I refuse to consider limiting myslef. That is, of course, until i get it done and see what hell I am in.
I could still do bow, but choose not to. It's the overhead spin pole stuff in windy conditions that wrecked my shoulder, so I don't do that any more. But I'm no spring chicken, anyway; so it's no big deal.

Best of luck with your surgery and PT! It takes 12 months to get back 90% of your strength and usefulness, not the 6-9 months the surgeon will tell you.

A melges 32 and esse850 made Cat 3 for WVYC Southern Straits. Not sure if they got an exemption or actually complied with the regs. I think Slacker may know more PM him.

I found with my right shoulder, which had two surgeries, one before rupturing my bicep and one after, took nearly four years to get back to like 80 or 85%. I think that is about the best I can hope for. With my left shoulder it took a good 12 months, if not more like 18, but it is very hard to gauge since I am right handed.I go back on bow now even though I am in my early 50's. I just have to remind myself not to tear the damn things apart in a windy takedown.
I WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!

I'm 46, and plan on doing bow until I'm 70. I'd rather fall off and die than quit doing what I love. Thats what all the insurance is for anyways.

Rule 3B

From sunset to sunrise the following shall be substituted for rule 17:

When two boats are on the same tack within 3 overall lengths (of the larger boat) of each other, the boat being overtaken shall maintain her proper course. The overtaking boat shall keep clear, and neither boat shall bear away toward, nor luff, the other'.

AND....

if anyone misses the "R" flag this year, and the 10 vhf announcements about an "R" flag, and a race circular about an "R" flag, and a bunch of bar talk a few days before the race about the possibility of an "R" flag..... DONT BITCH ABOUT IT!!!!
I'll bite. What is the "R" flag for. Has no meaning in the Int Code Flags.

I hear ya. But you need to be realistic or you will find yourself on the DL. We don't recoup as fast as when we were younger.

Sure would be nice if they allowed Multihulls!

sailing instructions -round the Island Clockwise.

If R flag displayed - round the course in reverse (counter cockwise around the island)

So can I assume you will make sure the Patio group takes proper note of this??

Look Forward to seeing you on Friday, Glad to see they moved the start up, hell always just waited around for the start anyway.

Regards

Looking forward to using that big ass hailer for this. Dont need to warn the whole fleet, its usually just the j109 guys.
