The pattern of British failure is clear over decades now.

Are you saying that all Britain had to do to succeed in the same way was to foster tax haven-hood? Then why didn't it? Could it be terminal incompetence?

You seem to have rapidly descended into insults and mudslinging. Plus ça change

Ponzi in the UK, 500bn probably missing in pension funds assets.

Pensions experts ‘shocked’ at hidden borrowing across UK schemes

“If you look at just the asset side, based upon the calculations that myself and Con [Keating] have done, we estimate that roughly £500bn is probably missing somewhere. And this isn’t a paper loss. This is a real loss because pension funds were selling assets to meet the collateral calls,” Clacher said.

No Jack, Aka An Idiot started another thread here...

You know both of these things to be lies, yet you post them anyway.

Did you bother to check the first post in this thread before replying, or just assume that you can assert the truth to be what you want it to be? This was how the brexit con was perpetrated, of course, perhaps it's no wonder.

Is this how you conduct yourself in the real world too? Casual lies, brushed off as a joke, perhaps, if you are called out on them?

Given the benefit of the doubt, you defraud it, insulting those who grant it to you.

So pension do have funds in the Uk whereas the EU has todays tax income
Does anyone in Europe have any money saved for pensions?
They are all Pay As You Go, that worked in the 60's....

No. I did not suggest that at all. I simply pointed out why Luxembourg is the world's #1 country in terms of gdp/capita (also see my other post about why that is misleading).

What works for a small country like Luxembourg or Ireland won't scale up to a large country like UK.
Then for prosperity, the UK should break up? You should be consulting for the Conservative party, they say they're desperate to create growth.

Yup Fiji Bitter started this particular thread. As Fiji Bitter/ Jack Sparrow and AnIdiot are all one and the same, I think I may well be the one who actually is correct. The little " tic " when the anger management fails, gives the game away in the writing style.

Simply bollocks

As an aside what really should concern people is the unaffordability of the state schemes in places like France. Macron knows this and has tried to reform it but he has been blocked again and again. The French state simply cannot afford these very generous schemes

This argument has been floated more than once here for fun. London should be an independent country. Slash taxes and get all the business from Luxembourg and Ireland.

You should also google the campaign for an Independent nation of Yorkshire. Top quality giggles

We don't let people vote in elections until they reached 16 years because we are concerned they may vote for selfish nonsense. I propose we take away the vote from people in their last 16 years.
If you delete the vote for the last 16 years perhaps it would be a good idea to apply it to the people who stand for election of president or prime minister as well, it would get rid of Biden and Trump.

Well ... private pension funds, not anything to do with state pension, do of course have funds made up from contributions from pension clients, invested, sensibly or not, in the markets. State pension in UK is funded the same as most countries, from current tax revenue.

The French pension system, like other aspects of tax and benefits, is much debated here. In general the current tax payers accept a higher burden of tax to maintain the benefits, albeit with constant grumbling.

What Ukraine has shown is that France and Germany cannot respond to a military threat, the EU has no credible foreign policy clout not even on their doorstep
That didn't age well - Ben Wallace has said the British army needs to be properly funded as it is only big enough to “stay at home and do a bit of tootling around”.

I bowed out of this thread seems like a few years ago. Looks like I haven't missed much. :) UK seems economically diminished by Brexit. Various parties blaming other parties. See you all again in 2024.

It is now after having given the Ukraine all of our old goodies. Mind you the armies procurements of late has been pretty abysmal, the new Ajax tank projects are on the usual path of costing 3 Billion, all they do is deafen the drivers and be totally useless in todays battle grounds where the likes of HIMARS can outgun them from the air.

Even a few of the older Sea Kings heading that way, not sure what they will be used for ?
