In a top demonstration of European Unity France withdrew from the EU's joint energy scheme. Italy and Spain had already done so. The scheme would have meant French bakeries paying 10x more for their electricity. The scheme put together by Brussels ensured everyone paid the same. French bakers and other businesses didn't see why they should be penalised for the sake on "unity" when France has ample supplies of cheap nuclear electricity

Given you called the UK a "dump"

I wrote damp. Not dump. Not sure many would dispute that the UK is damp. That's quite a rant you've gone off based on not bothering to read what I actually wrote. I have looked into obtaining an alternative passport and my wife has a practical route but I do not.

You are due a trip to:

Yes… That’s the French exercising sovereignty.

The same sovereignty you claim we didn’t have in the EU.

At least try to be consistent…..

Uhm,

Eurostar trains forced to run with empty seats due to Brexit passport rules

you just beat me to it, was just on the news overhere too, but another funny one concerning Eurostar : last monday was walking around Paris Nord waiting for the TGV to Brussels and when passing the Eurostar entrance had a good laugh seeing that there is a guard standing at that entrance continuously holding a board which informs us that due to British legislation it is strictly forbidden to take any historical army artefacts on the train, even if it is just ornamental and fake, haven't seen that one on the ferries yet, but what a nice job for that man !

Germany and France's lack of support for Ukraine and frankly their meaningless words to Russia are a disgrace. These are EU's largest military "powers" and want to centralise military and foreign policy in Brussels where they would control everything. France has given roughly 10% of UK's military aid (4bn vs 500m) and Germany's shameless stalling on tanks is now the subject of cartoons ridiculing them.

Well the day before the French interior minister was lecturing us all about the importance European Unity on this scheme. Then the bakers told him to F**k off and Macron caved in

So to be clear, a politician listened to the people they represent, changed their approach as a result, and you think this is a bad thing?

Good old Pommie land can’t be that bad to visit apparently. From that same Guardian article

She said the demand for travel in the UK was huge, with leisure “fully back” and about 80-85% of business travellers compared with 2019.

Business travel to the UK down 20% compared to pre actually leaving the EU.

Let that sink in Wayne, you’ll get there eventually….

20% down in a post Covid world now dominated by Zoom and Teams business meetings, I‘d take that.

Hey in NZ on hols catching up with some old friends and guess what the biggest complaint is, lack of cheap labour. Seems the worlds cheap labour pool is dry.

Soon is your day of independence celebration. Expect massive fireworks and people partying in the streets.
Papers will be full of lists of what is gained by independence. How the export is booming and the national debt is the lowest. Proofing the EU needs the UK more then the UK needs EU.

PS, do not do a fact check, it will destroy the party mood.

I guess whilst the EU keeps the money tree printing presses rolling then the smoke and mirrors will only keep the Euro alive for the moment. But what will happen when inevitably the QE will have to dry up, should be interesting times in the EU when the begging bowls go out to the likes of the Netherlands.

133B is a tad less than the 3.4T in the ECB’s books. At least we can pay our own debt. Now the Netherlands is probably only one of three EU countries able to throw in a few euros, so glad your tax payers are up for the 1T of the other 23 countries bar bill.

Shall we then add in individual countries debts such as France’s 3.4T

Ooops shall we count France out as a net contributor.
