Ermmmm the message from Leave campaign was exactly that, benefits would accrue over time - basically via regulatory divergence and doing things to suit us. Obviously in the short term (we have only really been out for 2 Covid disrupted years) we have saved some £200bn in contributions and Covid recovery fund plus dodged €750bn in joint liability for new EU debt. Of course we have the best and fastest vaccine rollout whilst EU floundered in absolute chaos boasting about paying less which is as much use as a chocolate teapot in the midst of a global pandemic.

We voted to Leave the EU and we've done that democracy won. That is hugely important. The "deal" we have is poor as we should never have signed the NIP and we'd be far better off under WTO than the current nonsense.

Sunak voted Leave but I would hardly say he was a committed Brexiteer.

They told (or at the least, allowed them to believe) the wider electorate that they would benefit. The deregulation, however, is in the interests of the very well off. This was dishonest. A lie.

Democracy did not win. The electorate did not get what they voted for and the process byc which it was achieved was dishonest and flawed.

There was no mandate for a hard brexit. There was no mandate in Scotland (Union of equals, remember?) and there was no mandate in Northern Ireland.
That is not democracy, it's exploitation by deceit.
You got what you wanted (or some of it) but by conning the electorate not by democratic means. Unlike some other contributors to this thread you're smart enough to know that, so stop trying to pretend that it's somehow defensible. You won by foul means and hiding behind lies just demobstrates your moral vacuity.

I left the UK permanently in 2002.
I had never been back until Oct2022.
I spent a Month and a half travelling around old haunts and catching up with old friends all over the place.
What i witnessed was a pathetic mess of a nation fallen into neglect and baffling cyclical bureaucracy..
Zero REAL progress towards improving the standard of living for UK Citizens in the last 21years.
Heaps more ethnically diverse and inclusive though, which i’m sure is nice if you need a good place to claim the dole and raise a family.

Where you're analogy falls down is the never putting anything in- I was invested in the UK, politically, financially, culturally; and those investments are being squandered by the con artists that stole them from me.

So, yes; I'm angry and I'm bitter. I think it would actually be easier to live with if the broad church of brexiteers had anything of value to show for it.. if there was a net gain for the wider population but no, as a nation (or as four) we are worse off financially, culturally, politically, educationally, scientifically... it's an endless list.

Oh I know, spend hours and hours whinging on some sailing forum where anyone who has the temerity to have a differing opinion is considered to be of a lower calibre, despite the fact and it is fact, they have called all the shots correctly so far, unlike yourself.

Better get your arse over from Aus and go and visit Nanny Nichola, she'll listen to you. Mind you, you had better do it soon as her days are numbered it would seem, along with the Scottish Independence dream, as there has been a fair bit of noise of late in the press on just how badly the Scots are doing. Imagine what it would be like if they had to come off the English taxpayers teat.
