Are we back to the what big boat discussion again?
Can't be too difficult to just borrow a swan 45 in the Hamble for the week without the owner actually realising, can it ?

Actually I've just had a flashback to 6 years ago and the owner of a Ker 11.3 turning up during the regatta to 'reclaim' his boat !!

If Mills is 0 and Ker 1, then Corby must be 2 because his Rosie design won the entire event.
Good result for a bunch of Howth boys with the boatbuilder calling the tacticks and an annual budget that wouldn't last a weekend on some of the new boats.
Great performances from both Rosie and Jump but did Rosie really win the overall?

From the RORC website "IRC National Championship Points: The overall prize for the IRC National Championships will be awarded to the yacht with the lowest resultant score when the yacht's total score (less discard) is divided by the number of entries in her Class plus 2.'

Rosie 19.5 points divided by the entrants(28) plus 2 (30).

19.5/30=0.65

Jump Juice 12 points divided by the entrants (17) plus 2

12/19=0.631

This gives the overall title to Jump?

RORC say that the 'two' gets added in after the dividing the points by the entrants which seems illogical? If that is the case why add the 'two' at all? Or Why not add 100 or 66 or any number?

RORC are politely refusing to budge at this point in time.

Just did the maths. You are absoloutly right. Clearly the plus two gets added to the number of entries before being divided into their number of points. This plus two was put in to assist slightly smaller classes with fewer boats and to give them a chance. There is clearly no reason to add on two points afterwards as it would not change anything.

Lets hope the RORC is man enough to accept that they made an error and correct it in good time. Still great result for Rosie to win her class.

Probably more to the calcs than you think... Asked the RORC office on Sunday how it is calculated and was told the formula was devised by a mathematician over 30 years ago and nobody ever bothered to question it. Bit dark trying to take it away from Rosie.

Great to see a corinthian campaign like that winning where the whole crew get along and were in the Pier View knocking back the beers hours before taking the overall victory, a few boats seem to have lost that spirit...

From what I hear RORC are about to issue press releases correcting the mistake.

Totally agree... They are a great bunch of guys who campaign hard and play hard.

Well travelled and close nit bunch of people in a boat which has proven herself to be quick - particularly in the light....

Well done lads.........

Just heard that RORC have accepted that they made a mistake. Calculation is very straightforward and Jump was the overall winner. A press release will issue by them shortly.

Which if proves to be the case must mean that Blondie IV wins the Jackdaw Trophy as she was on equal points as Jump Juice????

Am I being silly but to me the discard is not factored into RORC's overall calculation, which may mean that Blondie IV and Jump Juice are in fact overall co-winners of the event as they both finished on 12 points??????

well considering blondie was the only mills at those events that really mattered. (in this context)
Exactly - and wasnt trying to say anything as to other boats, just first real head to head for Irish Commodores cup teams: ie the Mills team and Ker team
