Do you? I only had one insurance survey done and that was by a single bloke.

That was for a $600K policy including CF mast and sprit and included offshore racing up to 1000nm or so.

The CF mast did increase the cost as it bumped the premium up 5K, rounding it up to 10K. The hull stayed at 5K, everything else was a 1K premium.
Yes , the rig must be surveyed by a pro

??? That's complete shite.

I had no pro mast surveyor, I had no pro engine surveyor, I know he was no pro on either as it was the same dude that did my previous boat. He banged the boat details into his little algorithm and it spat out a number.

You can make very strange statements sometimes Slug.

No it doesn't, spoke to an insurer today.  The rig does not need a separate survey.

Why are you so hung up on repeating this over and over?  Let move on from your rig failure rant.  I'll talk to my agent and base my decision on that conversation.

That's a nice boat, I looked at that boat 1.5 years ago and ended up buying another one. I cannot believe the price

reduction, any survey issues? You will have a lot of fun with that

 boat!

I own a 2006 C&C 115 and insure with gieco/boatus. The premium is around $1200. I love the boat! Are you buying the

115 that Larsen is selling?
Yes the boatt I'm buying is the one at Larsen.  I've looked at a lot of boats over the past 3 month.  The second I stepped on the 115, I knew that was the boat.  Are you out of Chicago?

As far as insurance goes, so far it looks. like the best coverage for the money is Ski Safe, Chubb is a bit more.  I'm not interested in the lowest price but a company that will take care of my boat if something were to happen.  From my research, both seem to be good companies to deal with.

I did get a quote from Gieco but I had a bad experience with Boat US long ago with my first sailboat, a Catalina 25.  By the time they depreciated everything, I think my claim check may have covered the cost of a bolt.  I've never used them again.

I sail out of Menominee, Michigan. I club race and cruise door county. I have been insured with geico for many years, numerous boats, but no claims.  I

agree coverage and support is more important than price. The 115 is a great boat!

100k for a new  mast

insurance companies don’t drop 100k for a new mast  without due diligence

Just got a new quote from Ski Safe.....It is about half the cost of my Progressive policy, but I did notice this - (Not Included)  Include Consequential Losses ?

Includes coverage for consequential losses to your boat resulting from the burning, collision, demasting, sinking or stranding of your boat due to losses including wear and tear, deterioration and mechanical or electrical failure.

Which is kinda needed.....

With Ski Safe, I had the option to add consequential losses.  It added $40 to the premium.  I then called them and asked if the rigging failed and demasted the boat, would it be covered and was a there any stipulations as to when the rigging must be replaced or inspected.  Yes it would be covered and I was told  inspections are not required.

As to depriceation-  After the boat is 8 years old, the depreciation is 5% per year, unless improved/renovated.  Sails and canvas depreciate at 5% per year.   Racing is covered.

Chubb does not cover Consequential Losses, Chubb does not cover racing.   So Chubb is out.

I'm an insurance guy who loves a good boat insurance thread.  All of you who have your listed on your homeowners policy read the fine print.  If your boat is being delivered by paid crew or others besides yourself and someone gets hurt would your liability respond? What if your crew races a beer can race you can't make and there is a collision?  Also, if your boat sinks and needs to be retrieved and you have it listed as a value of $65,000, most home policies with a boat endorsed on it take the recovery fee out of the stated value. If it cost $25,000 to float it and drag it to a dock you only have $40,000 left of your boat is deemed a total loss.

Read your policies before you need them.

In all fairness, most of us on this thread did not suggest trying to cover a C&C 115 for racing under a homeowner’s policy. We suggested insurers that cover what the OP asked about.

Edit:  And no disrespect to you, but I tried two different insurance agents before going with Progressive. Not their fault, but they couldn’t find anything even close in cost that covered everything. Race boats are black sheep now apparently.

Who asked about a homeowners policy to cover their boat?   I want a real policy that will actually cover things.

Several mentioned it in the thread.  Are you on the east coast? Auto Owners and Frankenmuth Insurance both have good yacht policies. Find and independent agent that may represent them in your state.

Ski would not give me that option due to the boat being a 1999......They mind as well say they will not insure it then.
