We had some nice work done by Heidi in the canvas shop at Lyman Morse/Wayfarer in Camden - you probably could find someone else with cheaper labor rates but she was on time and met her estimate, did excellent work, and worked with us to keep materials cost down by using leftovers from other projects when possible.

We used a local upholstery shop.  They're used to making cushions all the time & are about 25% less expensive than anything "marine"-oriented.  Just have them use Sunbrella or other suitable fabric and give them the old cushions to measure out properly, so everything fits.

LM are going to do a set of cushions for me this Winter. Previously I used a guy out of Barters Island who seemed to do a lot high end stuff, (we're not high-end).

i found a local seamstress bought the foam at Defender and got the sunbrella on ebay..total for 9 cushions  including labor was $1200

So when it comes to interior cushion colors, what are people thinking? I mean you have you your blue, sea foam green and French bordello red... what’s a good choice for a faux herreshoff interior?

And what are people doing for decor? I mean I see a lot of pictures of boats sailing in pristine conditions or half hulls..etc...I was thinking I wanted a pastoral scene like a guy plowing a field with an oxen so when it’s blowing 35kts, raining and I’m sick as a dog I can be like, “ I’m glad a fcuk I’m not there doing that.”

Why not a picture of a torture scene from the Spanish Inquisition?

That way, even if it's blowing 135 knots you can still be like “ I’m glad a fcuk I’m not there having that dome to me.”

I don't really understand putting up photos of someone else's boat sailing as a decoration inside of my boat.

A small painting of a boat? Possibly.  A good quality, aerial photo of my own boat (preferably under spinnaker)? Possibly.

On my Pearson, I had a small wooden plaque that I mounted my naval submarine and expeditionary warfare badges. It was small, unobtrusive and was a nice conversation starter.  I like quality brass lamps and weather instruments as decor, also.

I despise all nautical decor inside of a boat, it all just looks like clutter to me. The previous boat I owned came with a cabin full of "wonderful nautical decorations" gifted me by the previous owner. Mirrors shaped like wheels, oil lamps, crap made out of shells and old fishing gear...... I filled up 4 contractor bags with it all and gifted it to the dumpster.

In my defense, I only have one oil lamp and I do use it. I totally agree on wheel shaped mirrors, bric-a-brac made of sea shells, etc.

We're trying for at least a pretense of subtlety. Plus if it's some pastoral scene you might have a The Bridge of San Luis Rey effect where you might be like - how did my decisions get me here as opposed to there.

That's a nice personal touch. I only have "Accountant of the Year" kind of stuff. I like the functional stuff - like oil lamps - clocks (why not have two? One in local one in zulu?).

So what about vaguely dirt colored cushions? In my mind the best color for a car is the color of brake dust.
