02/06:30am N 100kms 54knots

02/06:15am NNW 102kms 55knots

02/06:00am S 102kms 55knots

02/05:56am S 98kms 53knots

Latest wind recordings from willis.

Interesting though that wind direction at willis has swung to north and around 54 knots.

Would have thought it would contniue to be S or SE and swing east and increasing given the rotation and current expected position of yasi.

Has it actually passed and slightly below? If so wind speed not at speed expected.

Or am I missing something? probably should not ask that.
According to Bom radar the eye is still 80+ km away. Doesn't add up, unless the wind gear is starting to blow away.

Just on the news "3 men on Willis Is are being evacuated right now" Can't be right. They would be shitting themselves if it had been left this late.

Instruments indicate that the B/Pressure is still dropping fast. The vane portion of the instruments could be damaged or there could be a vortex in the area of the instruments caused by a building or other structure. Radar and satellite still bringing the storm directly overhead for the island and things should really start to deteriorate over the next 90 minutes.

It is a dedicated weather station so I think they would have the instruments in a clear space.

Did wonder if there is some damage.

Barometer at 979 and has been steadily dropping for 12 hours.

No way...Evacuating them now? How about this time yesterday? WTF?

KUDOS BTW to the pilot and crew of the rescue vehicle. They have about 60 minutes before it gets seriously ugly.

Looks like the Aus TV stations are going to broadcast this disaster live to the world.

edit. I think the news report of evacuating Willis Is had to be wrong. Must have done it yesterday.

Willis Island Radar is showing the eye approaching and its 50km across, I wonder how much longer we will get obs from there. Stay safe every one up there this one is the real deal.

Weather station just went off line. Could be too many hits but it's about the right timing for Yasi. Last reading showed 24 hPa drop in 7 hours, yikes!

I've read about a cyclone in the 1800's that destroyed a lot of pearling luggers on the QLD coast. Dolphins found caught in trees up to about 20m above sea level. In "Cruising the Coral Coast"
