Can a C880 safely cross Nantucket Sound?

I can tell you there are a handful of guys out there that know where to look and find good deals on beachcats all the time. Sometimes you gotta go to Murrays to get parts but one of my buddies has a cleaned up, nice 5.2 that he's probably into for about a grand. When they first got popular the 5.2 was a bit of a revolution, much better sailing characteristics than a Hobie 16. I'd challenge anybody to show me a better all around fun machine.

Not that I would buy one, but I wonder your opinion about the new Nacra 500mk2 and 15.

Also, I used to like the Hobie Wave, but I see them as too simple now. I think Nacra 5.2 was way ahead of its time when it first came out.

My opinion about any new boat is....NO! A Wave is a great little boat, especially in a windy area and/or sailing off the beach. A Nacra 5.0 is also very fun. In case I haven't made my opinion (which is worth exactly what you paid for it) clear is, buy a beat up used boat and sail it to death. Till all your teeth fall out. As long as it's well-designed and the critical parts are in good shape you win. Buy a new boat and the guy who buys it from you in a couple years wins.

Nacra 5.2 is moving to the top of my short list. I thought about Wave (as used) after watching some YT videos about it. As I am a total beginner, I thought about starting with it and sailing it for a couple of seasons before jumping on something bigger like a Nacra 5.2. That was why I liked Weta too; it looked beginner friendly in mild conditions but also capable of craziness in the future, in my more advanced days.
