Canadian Politics

Fair enough, but do you really want your tax dollars spent on an inquiry at this point? Just to possibly score points against JT? Waste of money IMHO.

I neither like nor dislike Trudeau, but I wonder who the Trudeau-haters are going to blame for all the problems in Canada when he's gone. And PP is no improvement, quite the opposite.
unfortunately, Canada's been managed like a spineless jellyfish.

We can do much, much, much better, but we lack quality leadership from all parties.

So why would China try to discredit O'Toole? IMHO he was the best candidate for PM the Cons put forward in a long time. What did China stand to gain by keeping JT in office? It must be something more than just government willingness to overlook Chinese meddling.

IMHO O'Toole lost because of the Harper legacy, not because of Chinese interference. If O'Toole was LOTO now, it is true that Trudeau would be in trouble.

The NDP can vote for ousting Johnston, and for a public inquiry without changing their fundamental policy, because it's not a confidence motion. I guess with Johnston, I guess it's worth remembering that it was Harper who suggested him to the Queen.

I have found some things that were important enough to have rated a public inquiry in Canada-

Miramichi and Acadie-Bathurst Electoral Boundaries Commission-2004

Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River-2009-2012

Commission of Inquiry Into Certain allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney-2008-2010

An interesting discussion about David Johnston and conflicts of interest, unfortunately chopped into Twitter bites.

Interesting but not relevant to the point.

The issue is not whether there is an actual conflict of interest, rather whether an apparent conflict would be perceived to exist by a reasonable person who is reasonably well informed.

A well informed person would be able to find multiple occasions documenting JT or DJ referring to the other as a friend and recounting time spent together, along with pictures of them hugging each other. Add in the participation in the Trudeau foundation with its donation problem and his history of close dealings with China, would a reasonable person start to wonder?

No, but I'm not a reasonable person.

I think we should nuke Beijing.

I know getting a Candu reactor into a 747 could be a problem, but maybe they could hang it on the outside.
