Yeah, doesn't seem like an exciting career choice. Doing it in boats and ships would an even bigger challenge than in an industrial building; that's challenging enough and the fuckups can get very expensive. Disclaimer- I only had to do this a few dozen times over the decades in the context of fixing expensive and potentially unsafe fuckups.

Prior to 2016 I could not imagine the Republican Party would be stupid enough to line up behind Donald Trump, orange quacking con man and failed reality-TV personality. But here we are.

The R's will line up behind anyone their source of funding tells them to. Leonard Leo is the de facto head of the Repugnican Party.

That is a big big factor, for sure; but I think it goes a bit deeper. Look at how Mike Bloomberg failed miserably as a Presidential candidate in 2020. They need a candidate who shouts all the right hateful slogans, who will not alienate their new enthusiastic White Wing KKK neo-Nazi voting bloc as well as not driving away too many of the gun nutters and who offers something to the anti-abortionists to get them to continue the battle against Satan.
