Thatcher's personality was writ large on his face.

Pierre Poltroon looks more like a bureaucratic non-entity - a clerk in a government department or something similar.

The report on said idiots was just released. It was pretty obvious that the cops were largely in sympathy.

Think about who becomes cops. People that like to bully and boss other people around (even if they don't say it to themselves).

In BC it is 21 weeks of classroom learning + 18-21 weeks of on the job training to become a cop. Also have to have 1 year of post secondary education. That's not a huge barrier to entry.

Sorry Zonk but that's pure bullshit.

My son is a Mountie. After more than 4 years of vetting it was 6 Months live-in at depot for basic. Then a year of probation with a training officer.

On his graduation day they were dressing for the ceremony and one of them jokingly said "I can't wait to get out there and start knocking heads".

He was overheard by a staff member and was immediately expelled - 2 hours before graduation.

There are assholes in every field but the vast majority of cops want to help the public.

Yes, I am sure that the majority are good people and want to help people. My interactions with most have been positive. Not so sure it's the vast majority.

So many "bad apples" keep appearing. I think part of the problem is the quasi-military culture of "us" and "civilians". And dealing with assholes as such a big part of your day. How long before that sort of interaction on a daily basis starts to change how you deal with others?

In Vancouver you have to look at the young officer who killed herself. Two officers were implicated in her death. One was fired, one resigned.

Or incidences of police bullying or assault - this is just in the past few years.

A former judge appointed to assess two Vancouver officers' actions when they handcuffed an innocent Indigenous man and his granddaughter in 2019 has determined they "acted oppressively," a B.C. First Nation says.

In the decision, Neal described the events as "disturbing and profoundly disrespectful."

"I have found that the officers’ actions in arresting and handcuffing the parties was undertaken without reasonable and probable grounds," Neal wrote in the decision shared by the Heiltsuk Nation.

"I have found that no reasonable police officer standing in the shoes of the two officers could support such actions based on suspicion alone."

And all VPD - it's had leadership problems for a while.

Part of the problem is municipal forces. None are as good as Mounties - they only exist so local pols can have more influence over them, like that idiot McCallum wanted.
