Car suggestions?

It's time for a new car. I am almost willing to buy a 2010 Infiniti G367x, but 330 hp and two tons is more than I need. AWD is a must, and I want it to be fun to drive.

I won't buy Audi/VW (did that with an '01 TT), and wonder what I have missed.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Subaru Impreza or Legacy.

Affordable, AWD, can handle any road condition, reliable, mind-achingly fun to drive on the twists.

Lexus IS 250 AWD. Wish I had known about that car when I bought my Subary Legacy AWD as AWD is a must for where I live, my commute and my driveway. You might also check out the Subaru Legacy 3.6R sedan.

We have 32K on our 2010 Subaru outback and bought Grandma the legacy. The 2013 legacy 3.6R will have upgraded suspension and the flat 6 3.6L non turbo engine is a gem. The AWD is unmatched the Infinity is part time meaning you turn it on when your in the snow otherwise it stays off. We tow boats and tent trailers with our subarus and have zero complaints. The legacy handles really nice bit of a scrappy nature under the mellow looking sheet metal. Very nice size good for 4 large adults in comfort. The 3.6 is a 5spd AT built by the same plant that makes the Infinity AT. The 3.6 gets pretty respectable mileage 25-27mpg on the highway 19-20mpg around town.

We have the 2.5L with CVT which is a great combo not a stoplight sprint car but tows strong and does highway trips just fine 30mpg on the highway under 70mph and 55-60mph flat driving we have seen 34mpg.

The legacy is the road car with some handling chops that will impress you the Outback wagon is a total wallowing pig so if you like handling get the legacy - as for space the legacy and outback are identical regarding seating space and trunk floor space. The best thing no one can touch Subaru on the pricing and for what your getting - and Subaru kicked Honda off the top of the heap for reliability and owner satisfaction.

Go drive the LEGACY Limited and if you can find a 3.6R it is a must drive before you go buying something.

Legacty GT was discontinued they weren't selling enough of them. The 3.6R is however selling pretty well. Not a massive power house but a very nice engine putting down 250hp. Subaru now has Toyota DI technology so in a few years I would not be surprised we see some bigger HP numbers.

May not need it, but it sure is fun. There is zero substitute for horsepower.

Used Bentley GT...2005-2007.

Seriously...mate of mine is this close to coughing up for one. All the major depreciation is borne by the twit who pays full coin for it and what is left behind is a very sexy ride.

Caveat emptor, of course...but hey...distressed assets and all...just sayin'. It will outlive you...and your brats.

DO IT!

We have a Socal U20 owner who has a Ford AWD sporting the direct injection twin turbo V6 he tows the U20 with it and likes that even with the U20 attached it can out run nearly every other car on the road. LOL His other tow rig is a massive diesel custom semi thing.

I have a 2011 Subaru Forester, 5spd manual. I routinely get 31.5mpg in 60/40 driving conditions (60%hwy 40%town). AWD, traction control, etc. It handles like a go-kart and has plenty of zip.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Legacy 3.6R last fall to replace a crushed Lexus RX (Hurricane Irene). No factory approved hitch/towing capability kept me from doing it as I need one tow vehicle in the family for up to 3500#. Wher swmbo gives up her lacrosse/swimming/dorm move mini van, it might be the replacement and the RX will stay around as the tow car.

3.6R is a seriously fun sedan while maintaining some suspension compliance for ride comfort. WRX would be more fun but not as user friendly as a daily driver.

A lot of AWD sedans come with run flat tires. Run away from those. I had them on a Sienna AWD and they are terrible.

Up till just a couple of years ago Subaru always rated the Legacy the same as the outback given they are identical in all aspects except the taller suspension set up on the outback. The hitch bar is exactly the same given the frame on both vehicles are identical.

Which case the legacy would be along the same lines as the outback on towing capacity. 2700lbs for the 2.5L engine and 3000lbs for the 3.6 which given my experience towing lots of trailers with both a legacy and now our outback those weights are very optimistic given the car cooling capacity is the limiting factor. From 2010 forward there is actually a little note in the owners manual stating this.

104+ degree outside temps and 5+ mile climbs the CVT max trailer towing weight is 1350lbs - the 3.6 with the 5spd AT is 1500lbs - and the manual transmission 2.5 is 2700lbs.

Your need for a 3500lb towing capacity exceeds anything Subaru has ever built

I quit following Ford a long time ago Pretty sure he said it was AWD but could be mistaken but what he has is a v6 twin turbo Taurus. Wicked car and he does the run from Socal to SF towing the U20 quite often.
