My sister and I always remark that it was very easy when our parents passed…7 siblings, but virtually no assets to pass along. Ah, there were some benefits to growing up ‘poor’.
Same, my siblings and I joke about it. "Hey, who's gonna take Dad's laughing bass trophy?!"

So you could challenge an inability to challenge it?

Lawyers.

Found this out when we were setting up our trust. I inherited a house my parents owned as a vacation rental on Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania. I have one sister, that lives in Philly that will come in guns blazing should I go before her to get the property - she felt it should have been hers, and the area has blossomed over the years.... a 2.5-hour driver from Manhatten. It is set up that the house stays with my family and can't be sold until the last of my brothers and sisters have passed. I wanted to ensure she wouldn't cause my wife or son any problems and put that language in the trust only on that property. My lawyer looked at me, crosseyed, and said, I'll do it, but it can be contested, and you may lose that one... Oh well! Knowing she'll have to hire a lawyer may be enough to fight her off.

My dad lost most of his hearing on his right side in Alaska in army, Frostbite. He is an old german dude that refused to wear face coverings whilst teaching skiing to the recruits, but I digress. He is 87 now and man, I can't hold a convo on the phone with him any more(talk to them at least 3 times/wk). We tried headsets, facetime, bluetooth speakers, He even got one of those closed captioned phones recently and it still is a struggle. More frustrating as he tends to say ya ya ya when he can't hear and he does not get any of the details... anyway, It's tough...
hehehee, that reminded me of my dad and his brother when they were both in their late 70s and deaf as posts. my pop from flying bombers in WWII and cranking up the jazz way to loud on his stereo and I don't know what fried my uncles hearing, but I digress.. they'd call each other about once a month to check in. Neither one could hear a word the other was saying but they knew they were taling to each other. One of them would ramble on for a few minutes and the other would go "yep, oh yeah" then they'd switch. the last time they did that, after pop hung up he said " I dunno who that was, but I think we knew a lot of the same people, seems like a nice guy".....

Just recently lost my father, hell of it is, wasn't the only time he died. But that's another story.

A few years ago, before he went downhill pretty fast, I went down to Denver and picked him up to spend the day together fishing and just hanging out. On the way home we drove by a Hooters. I said to myself "l'm taking my dad to Hooters on his birthday!" My dad was a big NASCAR fan so I asked the bartender to put one of the big screens on a race. He sat there with his beloved Budweiser, watching NASCAR, eating some wings with young ladys attending to his every need and he looked at me and said "A guy could get used to this huh".

My brother and sister and I just got back from placing his ashes overlooking his favorite place on earth.

My mom's 98, living at home with full-time live-in aides. She has broken each of her hips over the past six years. As mentioned in the thread, each stint in rehab resulted in a step function decline of cognition. Her short-term memory is pretty much gone. I bring old photos over to show her- each time it's as though she's never seen them before.
