Cats

That’s what we do. We live on a busy road and there is a wonderful field on the other side of it. I am not a huge fan of cats but anyone owning one without letting it be a cat outside is suspect imo.

We like cats and have had indoor-outdoor cats in the past. The benefits are they sharpen their claws on trees instead of furniture and oriental rugs, and they poop and pee outside. OTOH, we also like to observe and feed the many species of birds that inhabit our rural wooded area. Our cats are indoor only now for several reasons. No fleas, worms, rabies, coyote kills, or other outdoor hazards, and more importantly no bird kills. Cats kill birds for sport, some eat them, but that is not why they do it. Missus used to let one out on the deck until she killed a few birds, and we stopped. The facts are below........

Too much stuff on the ground in the field, in the pump house, in the studio, in the carport and under the house etc at my place I guess. In 30 years most with numerous cats only a few birds killed. in fact have never seen a cat in a tree on my property. never really thought about it before.

We have 2 indoor/outdoor cats and a feral cat that we feed and provide shelter for in the garage. Judging by the number of body parts and corpses of birds, voles, lizards and mice that occasionally appear in the house, on the deck and out in the yard, they are efficient hunter/killers. Given the amount of feral cats that prodigiously reproduce in out semi rural neighborhood, and the amount of wild animals and birds of prey that live in a large forest a couple of hundred yards from our house, If our cats all became vegan overnight, I doubt it would make any difference in the carnage that must occur daily where we live. And the cats aren't the apex predators, they too fall victim to other predators.

Yes, this is an official publication of the US Army Corps of Engineers (the bridge/dam/lock/river people). Awesome bad Photoshop skills (deliberately)
