What the best bet for a temporary sim card for my phone, or a temp phone?

last year I used tmobile, but not sure if they still have the same deal.

$0,99 SIMcard, $30 for a month (100minutes+5gb Data or something).

they use cdma phones which probably isn't compatible with the gsm that op probably has.

look at tmobile or att for prepaid sims at walmart, gas stations, etc. you'll need an unlocked phone to make it work. if your phone isn't unlocked, just buy a $20 disposable prepaid phone/card package.

I don't have much experience with pre-paid phones, other than what I saw while watching "The Wire", but this deal from Cricket wireless could be up your alley - Android phone, $50 a month, unlimited US and International calls, and unlimited data. Put the skype app on the phone and away you go all for a $100 (before tax).

If Tmobile works you might check out Metro PCS as well, they are a pre pay service that Tmobile bought. There may be others reselling on that network as well, just as Virgin, Boost, Cricket and others use Sprint.

I think most of the carriers are now offering pre pay (not contract plans) and I switched as it cut my bill almost in half.

check with your own provider, you may be able to use your own phone (smartphone) for additional money. Planning to to the same for a trip to europe. cheaper than screwing around with a second phone.
