All,

I am hunting for a detailed CAD model of a skiff/olympic dinghy/something interesting for work and a CFD demo.

If anyone has anything suitable and they are interested in seeing the results give me a shout.

Sorry it's a bit sodding serious for this forum but thought you lot might come up with something interesting!

I can give you a nice trimmed up .IGES of my ship, plus dagger and rudder.

Or 2D/3D .dxfs / dwgs

I was hopefully after the whole thing, rig, appendages and all. But I could probably piece things together if need be...

Any other bits and pieces from anyone?

Are you after just a hull, or the foils as well, or even with the rig included? I can offer this as a hull.

Is there CAD knocking around for them?
What format in decreasing order of quality Iges, Dwg, Dxf
Would be interesting to see a comparison of the Woof, BMMII and L34.232 12' skiffs. With plenty known on actual performance of the Woof then there would be a good baseline for scaling the results into the real world.
Yep 3D models of each hull. no idea about foils, rigs etc. Talk to the Goat and he can get you started.

May I ask which Goat?

What CFD program?

So Cal
CFD=colors for directors

getting a model to mesh is one thing - accurately matching the flow of an existing planing hull is quite another

much less predicting the flow of a new hull

For sure...we use openFoam.

We have a rnge of tank validation cases but they are relatively basic in detail, and I want something for marketting with a level of detail above standard tank testing.

Our bread and butter is the performance motorsport industry...so a little different but accuracy is essential so we are used to hunting for accuracy.

If you never try you will never get there.

10 years ago the automotive industry said the same...but now we can get stuff to track without ever seeing a wind tunnel and have results to show it.

One step at a time :D

So Cal
doing incremental changes to an existing known shape is one thing

doing a whole new shape is another thing altogether

and a planing hull with appendages in the water air interface - with a variable waterline, will be close to imposable

crap – we pay 10,000 a year for a license and have several aero guys using it - and they still fucked up the drag numbers on a simple rocket, to the tune of 15%, and this after three weeks in a supersonic wind tunnel two years ago

it's not about how much you pay...hence the shift in industry towards openSource.

And I'm not about to say we can model a planing hull accurately, thats why I'm after CAD...to model, validate, improve. We can do a decent job of the aero though...thats our expertise.

i have a model of a B3 with foils, rig, sails and crash test dummies on wire if you wish. Accuracy of the whole thing may be suspect for meshing purposes but its there.
