Charleston Race Week

My 22 yo daughter just signed up as a volunteer. I'm shocked that she is blowing off "fashion week", in favor of sailing. I guess fashion week serves inferior adult beverages.
Tell her to be sure to introduce herself. I'll be a good boy ;)
I told her to look for you, but she carries mace, so no funny business.... :D
Mace will have absolutely no effect on the boys from Imp.

But if she does beer pongs then they will recognize her as a fellow traveler in the galaxy.

Does somebody want to tell the story of how they bought Imp all those years ago? Its hilarious. Only the irish.

I'm so glad to hear they are coming over again. I would come to CRW just for that alone. Damn the recession! If they are there, its a good party.

The real test will be to see how many boats actually make it to the line. I agree that the regatta is tons of fun for the buck. It should be a true acid test to see how many have the bucks available for fun.

Damn echo - not defending your title! Bummer to miss you this year. So far that's you and the U20s, haven't had any other sad news just yet.

It was a preception issue; layoffs and shut downs then here I go "yacht racing".

It was a tough decision but I felt I owed to my guys/gals to call it early. I'm not sure how big our fleet would have been anyway? Avalon and Arrow were good comp, but the cheater Cape Fear, well... ;)

Find SailRacer and Old Man on the Bow a ride for me.
Cheater Cape Fear? What's that about?

Ask Espo, but they should put back in the furniture and settle on a spinnker pkg, pole or sprit? Interesting boat to say the least.

and away we go...

My guess is that it will be a huge sport boat/small boat in shore regatta but the off shore keel boats, other than the locals, will suffer. I wish them well and hope to be back next year. I may even come down and ride around a friend's power boat.

Nice form Echo. Last company I worked for we had a 10% layoff and the next week the VP of Sales, (son in law of the owner) rolls into to work in his new BMW 745. Talk about a bunch of pissed off people!

Wow, 35 M24's and 34 Vipers.

Should be great entertainment. Wish I could make it.

Clean, you racing/covering or both?

I beat that boat on the water AND protest room so shut the fuck up. Sending a sailmaker to the protest hearing? Then he wouldn't even shake my hand after he said "no matter happnes, he respected us". Send the owner!

I had to say "so? do you still feel the same there, buddy?" Come see us and get off your little pond...

Jeez you are right - i think- you did win a race (but over the years only once of maybe 10) .. and the regatta .. oh no the cape fear won the regatta.. the protest was bullshit... both boats early to the line at the RC boat after the CF is overlapped with the RC, the redneck dullards luff sharply and make contact.... course that aint how you laid it out in the protest room ... Idiot pro put the boat at risk so he was told by the crew to see attend PC this is not uncommon...

I have to agree with Echo, I won't say cheater rating. But I will say wrong rating at 87 and wrong PHRF class at KW.

I researched the boat abit I think you will find 87 to be generous according to some other areas. Archive a sailing world article from Aug. 2002 the boat started out at 60-63. The designer was hoping it would settle in around 72. 72-75 is probably the correct rating. Tangent sailed like shit in KW there starts were not great it took them at least a minute or more to get the chute set and going every set EVEN on friday. There gybes sucked I think they gybed all week twice without wrapping the chute, and the leeward marks were a joke dropping the chute 200 yards from the mark and still squaring it away about 200yards up the upwind leg.

Trust me I had a good view from back where I was ,battleing it out with the Cal 40.

I have sailed many years against good 87 - 90 raters the best Sov 33 in the country Deviation. And this boat was not an 87 rater

"Luff sharply" that's funny. That means heading upwind wind right? Wow, where were you? Sewer bitch? How about "turned away" to aviod you idiots barging in. I still can't believe y'all tried that. The only mistake I made was not slamming the door when I should have. Now go read the first line in Clean's post "Defend Title".

... and btw FUCK OFF NEWB !!!

We've got the full-on OTW package together for Charleston, and we hope to have live, streaming video ready by then but that may be a bit ambitious.

Pheonix: At the moment, the offshore circle is looking pretty healthy. One thing that is great about Charleston is that there are a lot of 30-40' boats around - nothing super high performance - but enough to have some good 12-15 boat classes. Our PHRF handicapper is excellent, and PRO Randy Draftz is just the bomb. Almost everyone who has raced both KW and CRW PHRF agrees that the handicap stuff is just much more competitive. The fleets are also full of ex CofC sailors, so the talent level is pretty high.

But yeah - like racing in general, Charleston has embraced the paradigm shift going on for the past few years - easily trailered, cheap to sail sportboats are the wave of the future, and Charleston positioned itself for that wave. I feel lucky to have been a part of it.

Well the rating is one thing, one off boats are hard to rate PHRF lets all agree to that and as they say "BUT"

I was given a tour by the owner at BHI I honestly like the lines of the boat Big F&%$ing cockpit lots of room to get things done.

Down below was a joke for a PHRF boat, every drawer not empty but gone, NONE, the access covers to storage below bunks, setee's (not to mention cushions) gone safety equipment about non existant, the Reefer had the compressor and & condensor pulled it was bare.

Funny part was the owners wife complained that she wanted her referigerator back!!!

I will assume that this was a one time oversight not understanding the rules of PHRF and they were equipped as required by their gift rating in Key West (anyone get invited down for a beer??) and I am sure they will be properly out fitted in CRW.

Regards

We are making the trip for the first time down to CRW this year. The economy sucks ass but with good planning and a crew that is willing to put in towards the program, we will be one of the keel boats to make it to the line. We are doing CRW based on it's solid reputation and famed beach parties. Looking forward to warm air and soft water!
