What's the poop on Wilmette Harbor?
What's the poop on Wilmette Harbor?
Basically one Commissioner on the MWRD board who voted "no" on April 4 has to come forward to ask that the topic be put on the agenda for the April 18 meeting in order for it to be reconsidered. If it gets on the agenda, then it would be put up to vote a second time around.
Both bidders are working feverishly (we have not heard any noise from the third bidder).
The Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation sent a letter to the Commissioners and ExDir of the MWRD today that discussed the importance of: Safety; The Competition Facility; Training; and the Hypersensitive Nature of Boating with Economic Changes. All of these dynamics are in play if the harbor were to be closed for the year. We asked the MWRD to re-open Wilmette Harbor on-time for 2013. We steered clear of recommending any of the bidders.
What's the poop on Wilmette Harbor?
If this rain keeps up, the lake may already be filled... perhaps we just meet at a neighborhood watering hole?Anyone want to fill the Lake Saturday night?
Bueller?

presumably snow that hasn't melted in the areas marked on this map would have the same effect on the lake? UP and N Mich still have a lot of snow from what i hear.Saw an interesting pic showing where it needs to rain to actually have a difference on Lake Michigan water levels.
Thanks Tom Skilling.

Since Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are actually one body of water we need it to rain on both lakes. At least every other day for the past two weeks it has rained on the GL's. Lake Michigan/Huron went up 3 cm (1.1") in March.Saw an interesting pic showing where it needs to rain to actually have a difference on Lake Michigan water levels.
Thanks Tom Skilling.

Wonder who paid off who to get this done? Just the "Chicago way"The MWRD Commissioners voted this morning 9-0 to award a new 39-year lease to the Wilmette Harbor Association.
While WHA had the dredging scheduled for now, the dredger had to move to other jobs and won't be back for about 3 weeks, but all of the dominoes are lined up and ready to fall to have the harbor open for 2013.
A lot of people within the sport, within other organizations and even non-sailors took the time to write the MWRD, a lot of people made this happen.
Get out and go sailing Wilmette!
As tactician, I'm making the call to postpone Fill the Lake until May when the temperature MIGHT be out of the 30's.If this rain keeps up, the lake may already be filled... perhaps we just meet at a neighborhood watering hole?Anyone want to fill the Lake Saturday night?

If it keeps up like it is now that would be better!
