I'm probably asking a stupid question, but is there a yachtscoring posted yet for the memorial day weekend races (CCYC Spring Opener and CCYC Olympic Cup)? CASRA needs a facebook page for this kind of thing...
We still have 15 days til the start of the season, they still have heaps of time to get us all registered, get certs in and checked, waivers, etc.

You had to know that this was going to be fucked up the first season, don't you remember when they needed Don to take over for the old system, took him a year to get it all straightened out.

They will probably won't have it up in time and will have to do it all by hand for the first 2 days. Luckily, they aren't in charge of another race until Chi-Wau and not very many race those first 2 days.

Yup, I have seen little to none TOT in Chicago.
I raced one in Michigan City years ago. There was a boat that was rated faster than us that finished behind us, and yet scored ahead. I pointed that out to the race officer, and his reply was that TOT was just weird sometimes. When I tried to demonstrate that TOT can be weird, but not THAT weird, he went back and checked and fixed the times properly.

This sounds great but the winner probably doesn't need the coaching as much as a boat near the back of the pack :D
I disagree. The winner will benefit most from Hutch level coaching.
The boat at the back of the pack is making elementary mistakes in tactics, boat mechanics, and boat speed...

Tactics: Banging the corners, not picking a lane, tacking underneath faster boats

Mechanics: Winch overrides, Bow fuckups, Pit fuckups

Boat Speed: Helmsman pinching, helmsman footing, backstay left on downwind, outhaul left on downwind, outhaul not put back upwind, slamming the jib in after the tack, ect. ect. ect..

You don't want an AC Pro spending his time "coaching" on the above. The above should be addressed by peers in the fleet...

I disagree with your disagreement. The measure of benefit is higher for the back of the fleet racer. Your assumption that their disconnection with the leader of the fleet is so elementary is quiet presumptuous.

Distance racing - Banging corners; highly unlikely. More often that not is it a case of the rich getting richer with diminishing pressure and or unfavorable wind shifts. Or, the back of the fleet brings in the new favorable pressure and a more advantageous VMC

All and all, Terry will be able to give coaching assistance to a boat that only needs some fine tuning, or he can help someone in the back actually push the fleet leader.

Not that I'm much of a fleet leader, but I can tell you that getting pushed by your competition is probably the best thing for you...
You are missing my point Tim. Coaching is good for everyone but not every coach is equal. A world class coach like Terry would be best utilized coaching the top boats on the small details to trim and tactics. The boats at the back will benefit just as much from a lesser coach who goes over the basics.

As for the distance race vs can tactics comments, I was speaking in generalities here not offering specifics on any racing format.

The coaching piece of cake is for a series of port to ports, how about the best boat that doesn't have a pro on board during the series gets the TH bread?..

Good point! Check the link, we have a ton of educational events planned, from coaching at the casual events to webinars.  CCYC and the T10 fleet set up coaching for this weekend's spring opener and Olympic cup.  I'll be on the coach boat both days, tune into channel 72 after the start for some tips and advice!

RIP Jim Webb.  I have been informed that Jim Webb, owner of Witchcraft among other things, was painting the clubhouse at Jackson Park on the 25th when he lost his balance and fell to his death.  "hale fellow, jolly well met" an all around good guy.
