I still love yelling "mast abeam" around other boats on the race course. Yeah, I'm that guy.
You don’t really do that, surely?

Any boat that deliberately confuses other competitors by wrong hails breaks Rule 2, and may also be open to sanction under Rule 69. See generally Case 47.

Not surprising. The smart thing is that they seem ahead of other yacht clubs in announcing the postponement.
I am a bit surprised that Sailing World hasn't yet postponed/canceled Chicago NOOD, or that Chicago Yacht Club hasn't forced the issue.  That event is scheduled 2 weeks earlier.  Have no idea what the contract between SW and CYC says on this issue, though.

I agree. Given that Chicago harbors won't probably open until at the earliest June 1 and that boatyards are not launching boats, this is a major problem. Additionally, how many people will want to socialize in a large crowd at CYC after racing less than 2 weeks after the stay at home order is lifted?

It's not even the yacht club thing... most boats have 7-10-12+ crew... not from the same family. So you will be forcing people to be in close proximity with, epidemiologically speaking, strangers. A lot of asymptomatic carriers could be sharing aerosols. And you can't argue that that all crew members are perfectly healthy, fit, low-risk, young, whastever - even if they were (and we know they're not), they could transmit the virus back to their families/household members who may be high risk. And I don't think racing in masks and gloves will work.

I heard that Sailing World wanted to reschedule NOODs for later in the year and CYC said that they didn't have any open dates.

Who are we kidding? All racing will be cancelled all summer. Best case it will be single or double handed, a feat that most boats can't handle unless racing JAM.

We were discussing said topic "Chicago's Racing" this past weekend.  Noticed very few at the yard.  We were a group of 4 and have never been any larger.
It has been a couple of nice weekend days to get some work done.
We were thinking the same, Chicago's racing summer is pretty much not going to happen.  Too many people in close proximity and no one will be taking the risk

At least you can get to the yard. We aren't allowed in CYW to do boat work.

Big Thanks to Skyway and Steve and his family for opening up.  Not sure there would be an issue at any yard right now due to many just waiting.

We saw 5 other people the whole day and we are going to be at it again this weekend.  Have to say, even if less work gets done, it is nice to sit on the boat and have a drink and it has been plenty warm enough in the sun.  This weekend looks to be even warmer.  Boatyards will open up after mid month I suspect.

Two comments:

If you want to have a higher likliehood of getting some racing in Chicago this summer, get a Laser.  No guarantee but a better chance of racing for them then something with more crew.

Crowley's is currently open for customers on Saturdays and Sundays from 8a to 4p.

Not a lot of options in late summer (August/Sep) for a postponed NOOD for CYC... assuming they don't want to drop either Offshore or Inshore Verve, or compete with TriState/Labor day weekend, that leaves them Aug 28-30 (competing with JPYC/BPYC event), or morphing their "Chicago Regatta" into a Sep 11-13 NOOD, or using Sheldon Clark Weekend (Sep 18-20).  After that they compete with CCYC's Red Flannel thing,

Gonna require a bit of horse trading I think unless they use one of their "own" weekends (Sep 11-13 or 18-20) - most likely scenario?
