The attacks on drag queens and others in transgender communities as “groomers” or prone to child abuse are particularly despicable. There is no evidence backing these allegations. And those who push them are often conveniently quiet about those who have been prosecuted for abuse but belong to groups more aligned with conservative values, like the clergy, Boy Scouts, and even Republican politics (former House Speaker Dennis Hastert comes to mind).

The purpose of these attacks on the trans community is transparent. It’s about political power, and a power built on division. It’s about picking on those who have the least ability to defend themselves, including and especially children.........................

Referring back to earlier in the thread, my point is not that the church is perfect. My point is that there is both good and bad in the Christian church, just like there is in any human institution. To focus on the good, only...is delusional.

To focus on the bad, ONLY and not ever recognize that there's any good whatsoever, is also delusional.

If christian churches are recognized as highly racially segregated, corrupt, deviant and misogynistic political tools for the rich perhaps they should reevaluate their actions instead of hiring a publicist. Help the poor and make them want to be like you, instead of indoctrination of children with taxpayer dollars.

It seems those who oppose rights for others are quite angry.

If they see someone else enjoying their life, it illustrates the vast difference.

Can't have that. In vvv's small mind, enjoying your life means you are rubbing it in his face.

Not everybody thinks that. SOME churches are those things. Most are not.

But I know that you can't hear that message. You are totally, utterly and completely convinced that what you believe is the absolute truth and there is no other option.
It's rather like how the most dogmatic Christians believe that their truth is absolute and there is no other option. The thing is, there are lots of Christians who don't operate that way.

You just refuse to see it or believe it.

Though politically powerful, white Christianity has an image problem outside of its own houses. Deny it or address it.

As far as racial segregation, I will be impressed if you can do a head count next Sunday and report back that 99% at your service aren’t of similar ethnicity. I‘ve only attended one religious function where this wasn’t the case, my dad’s memorial. Mixed race weddings I’ve attended were always secular. Every other church service, funeral and wedding was of one group, with maybe one or two nuclear families that didn’t fit the racial profile. Others are invited to chime in and tell me this is only true in midwest or prairie states.

The Buddhists, black baptists, and Muslims are no better. Religion is near universally guilty of promoting segregation.

As for being racially diverse, my church is overwhelmingly white, but that's in large part because the local community is white.
IN 2020 we had a wedding of two local graduates from the big name University nearby. She's indiginous native American. He's Hispanic. Half their friends are gay.

Nobody gave a rip. She was the church board president for a year. They're welcome to get married in this church. We currently have a gay member on the next pastors call committee. I work with him on that committee. He's a scientist at NASA. I couldn't give a rip that he's gay and neither could anybody else in church.

Camilo Hurtado Campos, 63, was booked on allegations of child rape and sexual exploitation of a minor, the Franklin Police Department said in a news release on Sunday. Additional charges are expected.

Police described Campos as a "popular" soccer coach and a 20-year resident of Franklin, a city about 20 miles south of Nashville.
