Through some less than stellar planning (good portion of the distance racers on LIS are off to Bermuda and other locals are up at Block Island) and having bounced the date around the past couple years, the City Island Yacht Club only has three boats signed up for their 78th Annual distance race this Saturday. The few of us left here in NYC from the Shooting Star crew are thinking of doing it, but CIYC won't run the race with less than five entries...who else out there got nothing else to do this Saturday? Have to sign up on yachtscoring by 2000 today! Come on, the grass doesn't really need to be cut, does it?

we are always trophy hunting....but we have done nothing this season-this will be our first race-and thin man and young american can be nightmares so no cakewalk here, and we have no crew-every one under the age of 40 is heading for Bermuda-couple of geriatric cases on SS and Blondie, who is still on the learning curve.

Isn't that sorta what all of us are doing when we're racing?
