Eora doing a great job.

Now 6th right up with the front pack.

Hopefully they might also encourage more class 40s to come to Australia
By Rupert's own admission the boat is a bit of a dog upwind, especially in slop, and there's a lot of that in Australia so Classe 40s might not be a great option around here - unless of course they form a critical mass that can race amongst themselves and avoid competing with old TP52s on IRC

Interesting to see Mich Golding and Brian Thompson are racing  in the Normandy Channel Race...maybe a sign things are about to get more focused in the UK

Did a bit of trainspotting on the fleet.

Here they are in number order. Redman and CreitMutuel are midway down the fleet in age. Mach 40s seem to be the only older design still racing in any numbers. Even the RC3s are disappearing. It will be interesting to compare this fleet with the RdR boats.

Win for Credit Mutuel. Interesting win for a couple coming from mini 6.50 (Lipinski/Beccaria) ove a couple of "Figaristes" (Douguet/Richomme). Beccaria definitely a top ocean racer, always finishing top three in any race, on any boat (mini, Class 40, Figaro)

I doubt that very much. The UK is fucked along with any thoughts of winning anything, there have been's.  Look at how the French win then get back to me. Dinghy sail and make your way through the ranks  to get where you want to. People who haven't dinghy sailed it shows in  the results.

Crédit Mutuel, Inter Invest and Quéguiner-Innoveo, the leading trio of the Normandy Channel Race, choose the Grand Russel channel

A good part of the fleet for the 13th edition of the CIC Normandy Channel Race has now passed the Guernsey course mark. When crossing the Channel Islands, only three short miles separated the four leaders. If the leading trio, Crédit Mutuel, Inter Invest and Quéguiner-Innoveo passed through the Grand Russel channel (between the islands of Herm and Sterk), thus taking advantage of the still favorable current, Project Rescue Ocean, anticipating a bypass of Cape de la Hague against the current, took the channel of the Petit Russel (between Guernsey and Herm) to try a strategic option off the Cotentin. Axel Tréhin and his co-skipper Frédéric Denis bet on the fact that the leading trio would come up against the current off the western tip of the Cotentin, reputed to be among the strongest in Europe (6 knots at mid-tide).

In order to be less affected by the current at Cap de la Hague, the skippers on board Crédit Mutuel, Inter Invest and Quéguiner-Innoveo are working to get as close to the coast as possible. So much so that the cross Jobourg, so surprised to see offshore racing sailboats pass where usually only local fishermen venture there, warned the race management of the proximity of the boats with the stones. In the next few hours, the leading trio will continue to sail along the coast via the bay of Cherbourg until the current reverses scheduled for 8 p.m. in Barfleur, before plunging south-east towards Ouistreham, for the last fifty miles in a very light forecast wind, which will keep the public on their toes to find out who will be crowned winner of this CIC Normandy Channel Race 2022 with an ever more uncertain scenario.

The pursuers, spread out between Paimpol and Guernsey, are still sailing on sight in light airs, chaining maneuvers on board, as Pierre Casenave-Péré testifies from the Class40 Legallais: " When I said that we had the fangs before the race, I hadn't planned to literally draw with our traces of sharp teeth... 28 gybes since passing Portsall, we're pretty well established now with Fabien ”. Enough to put the nerves of the competitors, already very tired from four intense days of navigation, to the test in this last final sprint.

Even if it is always difficult to come up with a precise ETA (estimated time of arrival) before passing Barfleur, the latest estimates communicated by the meteorologist and the race management give the arrival of the first competitor on the wet line a few miles off Ouistreham in the middle of the night, around 2-3am.
