But the Coast Guard, and all uniformed services, have limited personnel. You can't turn down a mission because you're sick, and they can't expand the ranks so as to have somebody ready when X, Y, and Z, turn out sick.Nonsense. There’s a massive portion of the Coast Guard who operate from shore bases. I can totally understand the vax rules for ship based personnel.
It's all about readiness and mission availability. And of course, orders.
Sometimes, orders don't make sense (these particular ones do). Sometimes orders are for a suicide mission that -must- get done (not so much in the Coast Guard, that's more an Army or Marine Corps thing). NObody has the option of saying "gee Sarge I don't fee like going over the top and charging that machine gun nest this morning."
