Noice!
"we got a happy owner..." Judging by the smile he was correct. Congratulations. Enjoy.
Noice!
I’m not surprised at all.10.5 kts under main only?
That looks soo good! Congrats Tumbleweed, I’m absolutely chuffed for you, I hope she brings you many happy memories.
Been wondering myself about anti fouling with this type of keel- there are more and more of them…Dang this is one mighty looking build. A couple of questions … maybe Shaggy can speak from experience and might be relevant to your build Tumbleweed:
- How is the pivot keel and the inside of the keel housing anti-fouled? How easy is re-anti-fouling? Can it be done in situ, or is it a case of dropping the keel out , anti-fouling it and inside the housing and reinstalling it?
- Is the keel earthed? Is there any lightning earth strap from mast to keel? Is there a lightning rod at masthead and an earthing strap running down the inside of the mast? I've seen horrifying photos of carbon masts reduced to carbon dust by a lightning strike. Or do you just rely on insurance and hope for the best?

Cheers and keep that build chugging along for all us voyeurs … thanks
Light boats :wub:I’m not surprised at all.
We were two up on the 12.50 reaching into confined waters in a building breeze , white sails only and bagged out averaging low teens.
Too lazy and tired to reef so we just dropped the main and ran under the genoa. The boat speed never dropped below 10 till we ran out of sea room and furled it away.
It’s when they do the S bend around the shrouds that things get interesting. The more common flat fiberglass battens have a range, in terms of stiffness, that is related to their thickness. In the various manufacturers' specs, they quote a range of stiffness that they could be expected to offer, and the requirements for this main sail were on the max end of that range for their thickest available battens. I can't remember if that was the case for the gaff batten holding up the corner of the square top, or for the longest batten, but one of those two were really iffy.
They C-tech are carbon, with an oval cross section. They offer higher ranges of stiffness, for a lighter product Since I just dropped some $$$ on a high modulus carbon mast, spreaders, and titanium fittings, it seemed like a no brainer to minimize weight aloft, especially since they weren't all that expensive relative to the mast upgrades.
I don't think they taper into a flat shape towards the luff, but I'll know for sure once they show up!
Holy smokes that thing is awesome. I still can't get over the stern, love it.
Stupid cool grin-inducing sailboats. He's too busy sailing it!
