Ringle 39 an Australian Daysailor by Andy Dovell.

It fits into a specially prepared 40' container so you can race it anywhere; well anywhere you can ship a 40 footer.

…and the BBC (parody?) of it:
Quite liked that first one. And the second, about sailing Griff Rhys Jones' boat Undina from London to Cowes for a race - even if it was obviously TV, so bollox in many ways. But they turned to vairying degrees of carp from then on.

Griff does have some nice boats, though. Undina's for sale:

He wrote a pretty good book about sailing her to St Petersburg (Russia, not Fl).

And you can charter his other boat, Argyll.

Both pretty cool in a not-cheap sort of cool, in my book.

That certainly is some boat porn there Ed..

Argyll doesn't look particularly S&S from that angle and I've not seen that companionway detail on any S&S or any boat for that matter. It has that style of hatch Bob is drawing into Catari.

Somewhere OS wrote that he did very little drawing board work after the 1930s. That would include the lines for all the 12 meters after VIM. But that doesn't mean they weren't exactly the way he wanted them. From what I understand, different designers would do different parts. One would do the lines, another would do the construction, another would do the rig, etc. They were mostly all group efforts.

It would seem natural that for cruising designs, the individuals would have a freer hand than for the racing boats.

For a time, S&S had a Boston office populated by AAGE NIELSEN. I think from him, you got pretty much pure Aage Nielsen.

Another cool boat, Tatoosh, built for Boo Paschall, a Ben Seaborn design built in Seattle at Vic Frank's. Owned by Peter Fonda for years and now owned by a Seattle owner for 22 years. She is going to do a loop to the South Pacific this summer for old time's sake.

I remember reading about the restoration of that boat years ago - it's got an epoxy cold moulded skin over the original planks.

Not what I would choose to sail to South Georgia island. A little better than Shackleton's 18 footer but only a little.
