She used to have an Aries wind vane on the stern...Curlew has a 100% no bullshit look to her.
No windvane for them? Pretty hardcore.
They used old school life lines. i.e. they could tie a rope from the boom gallows to the shrouds and down to the bow. You can set your own height, probably higher at around waist level.

That is not the Seaborn designed Tatoosh I remember. The one I know was fin keeled, about 40 ft long and 7 ft wide and, was a double ender. Reportadly a terrible sailer. Maybe he designed two different boats which each owner named Tatoosh?IMG_1035.jpgIMG_1092.jpg
Another cool boat, Tatoosh, built for Boo Paschall, a Ben Seaborn design built in Seattle at Vic Frank's. Owned by Peter Fonda for years and now owned by a Seattle owner for 22 years. She is going to do a loop to the South Pacific this summer for old time's sake.

Very lovely boat...but I did put a straight-edge on the mast in the picture and it has a heck of a bend in it...not sure why the spinn pole would be up like that and the boom looks to be at an odd angle....and are we sure it's a BP design?...I mean the companionway is in the centre of the boat...wink*Is the mast rake distorted in that picture ? Could this be lens distortion? Although the rest of the photo does not seem to be distorted. Old Two Tonners don't bring much, at least around here. Last spring I turned down La Pantera at $17.5K - in scruffy but working condition with a low hours Yannie. There's a Peterson down Seattle way asking low $20's. The last time Heather was on the block was around that price IIRC.

The double ender Tatoosh was owned by Sandy Bill and I we used to cruise with them 50+ years ago in Desolations Sound, different boat. Boo Paschall was Bill Boeing's step son. Had an Owens Cutter named Revenge he did Transpac in that my grand father bought and I grew up sailing on. He then had a Ketch named Kirawan and then had Tatoosh built. As the saying goes, the stories that boat could tell. She is currently in San Diego getting ready for the South Pacific loop, Fiji, Hawaii and home to the PNW. Did many miles on Heather with the famous yacht designer Robert H. Perry, she was blistering fast up wind and typical IOR handful downwind but we won a lot of races.

Yes, the Two Tonner HEATHER IS my design. Yes, that is an odd camera angle.
Zensterfred and I did sail many races on that boat and had a ball while winning just about everything you could win around here. We were young and we were crazy. YACHTING magazine once wrote that HEATHER had single handedly destroyed Class A racing in the PNW. It was designed to go in light air and it did. I was paid $1,200 to design HEATHER.

Shoot the Moon is for sale!!! You don't get much for old Peterson two tonners. but that boat is iconic. Not seeing it out on the sound racing would be a travesty! Some should buy it and have it bronzed.
But the can of rusty can of bacon is a nice touch. Too funny.

I was pretty stoked to see Shoot the Moon on the market and then I looked at the interior pics - fack why does everyone beat on these IOR boats so badly? If you keep the interior in half decent shape you might be able to sell it for more than a J/24 when you're done. Sadly I think Heather looks in much the same state of neglect. BP - can you share an interior layout of Heather?
The only 'two ton' style boat I've seen for sale in even liveable interior condition in the last couple years was that black Choate 40 in Anacortes, and it was way rough on the outside. sigh.
