Canadians don't have accents.

Well... except Quebec and Newfie.

Nope. Very shortly after I moved to this fine land, we took a camping trip down to Washington (state), to a state park. The lady at the entrance gate booth where you pay for your site thought I was Canadian...of course, perhaps my accent originally stemmed from my mother, who is from Connecticut. For sure, now, when I talk to my sister down there (Wash, DC area), she has a charming Southern-Ian drawl. “Uh-huh”, (in that slight drawl) she says, to mean, “You’re welcome” :)

Am I in the wrong place? Isn't this the Coolboats to admire thread? Didn't realize it is actually the Price of Guinness, British-Built Cars and Rust, or Affected Accents thread. Guess I need to learn to read well enough to understand the thread titles.

LFH's Araminta, as done by Legendary Yachts in wood-epoxy. It was the first boat that impressed upon me how a boat can be even more beautiful in person than in a drawing or photograph. The first time I saw one I did not yet know the name Herreshoff, had not yet devoured all the books. The boat made me swoon.

Guess you need to learn to adapt yourself to the practices of an established community you have recently joined -- which practices include digression, tangent, and thread drift. If that bothers you too much, Cruiser's Forum is over there. --->

Seems to me that it's a matter of degree. Digressions, tangents, or a bit of drift that furthers the point of the discussion or enriches it in a relevant way is helpful. The bits above about WFB provide interesting color on a cool boat to admire. English car longevity in general not so much. Seems like a reasonable observation. I was under the impression this established community was established in part to allow an alternative view, including this one. Also, I just really want to see more cool boats to admire.

I think so. Best video evah on celestial navigation how to; completel with Locust Valley lockjaw and a red leather chair.
I learned celestial for my first ocean passage from one of his books. Did not know there was a video. For a man who talked with often tortured syntax he made celestial easily. understandable.

There's an old one of these at my club. Beautiful.

Again, we are not in need of arriviste Forum Police. It is unwise to walk into a dive bar in a strange town & complain the draft beer selection is poor and the jukebox needs better music. Probably the patrons who have been drinking there for years like it just fine the way it is and don't especially value your hot takes. Capisce? ;)

Perhaps he thought this was the online equivalent of the bar at NYYC Harbour Court, when in reality it's more like the Capitol Bar in Socorro, NM.

We walked into a dive bar in rural Colorado, unshowered, after a terrifying near-epic climb, needing booze. A couple of Cowboys approached and one sneered "You smell". I replied "No, you smell, I stink." My climbing partner, an ex-army ranger who could do a one arm, one finger pullup at age 50, told them "why don't we charge some drinks to my friend here".

Pretty soon we were going though the jars of weird pickled shit behind the bar trying to figure out what the fuck each thing had been before years of decay. Opening one, the bartender put a handful of some kind of slime onto a plate, pushed it towards me and said "I think it was a fish, you can eat all you want, free".

Nobody is that brave.

Years ago (by which I mean decades ago), I entertained everybody and made some friends out of former enemies by drawing an eyeball on a pickled egg from one of those scary jars on the counter of a little country bar/pool hall... then eating it.

They wanted to me to draw eyeballs on ALL the eggs and put them back in, so I obliged.

Ya know, I actually tried. The endless drift made it a slog. I guess if I had spent years bantering with the handful of people who dominate the chatter here perhaps I may have enjoyed it. Just after I made my attempt to read through, I was momentarily inspired to jump in. Lesson learned.

Found in a dive bar somewhere…

Sailing Anarchy
No home for us all
Just thirteen antiques
Putting Sharpies to stalls

Three of them crow
Six say they’re right
Four of them bark
A few more of them bite

Once loud in their youth
Now its twaddle galore
So proud in their truths
Turning threads to a bore

You actually think you are witty, don't you?
