Reminds me of a Thunderbird on steroids.

I had the same thought.

The Spencer designs really do it for me. Ragtime has always been a favorite, but that 40 footer looks so good too. Making a 4-panel hard chined boat look good is hard. If I wasn't into multihulls, I'd build a boat like that!

Russell just think of the time and money you would save building just one hull not multi hulls.:)

John Spencer built Infidel/Ragtime mainly on his own quite some feat but he had access to energy few have.
That long run of laminated/sprung floors added immense strength.

OK, so very quirky (the name of the tender, so appropriate), but definitely cool. Not pretty, but cool. Pete Goss's homebuilt ply. I like the colourful interior. Very Mondrian.
Blog about here here.

Yes, not pretty. Arguably fugly. But cool as a very cool thing.

Many echoes of the brilliant Fairey Atalanta from the 1950s. For most family uses, this is a much much better concept than the mass market white plastic boats.

I know, and I keep seeing monohulls I could own.
It's the lead part that I can't get my head around.
Also, I live somewhere where a slip is not available for people of my income level, so must be a trailerable boat for me and I'm damm sure not going to buy a monster truck to tow a keelboat around.

This 23' sloop, designed by Doug Hylan, appeared in the July/August 2022 WoodenBoat magazine. I have admired it often, since this issue is in the reading room.

Hylan describes it as a good fit for "wobbly old salts." I agree. I think an electric pod drive would be ideal. A fixed keel option would be interesting.

She is a cracker design Bull however you would need a slip or mooring both of which are scarce and increasingly expensive here in Auckland.
