I don't know anything about it. It's been posted on the Woodenboat FB group.

It's a Martin Menzner design (Berckemeyer Yacht design) from Germany.

Jan von der Bank is a German book author, playwright and an excellent sailor in the Contender class (world champion 2005), he built Remy in his shed over the time of several years.

If I recall correctly, he got donated an old Farr 30 carbon spar first, and the idea of the boat was created around that. The boat is built in wood, radius-chine (would you believe it?).

I think part of the creative genes came from 'Kleine Brise'

That's how it was done 60 years ago thick teak and offset/staggered screws.
Now thin teak and Sika.

True, they sort of had a real teak deck in mind, for strength, and not much bond between deck and substrate.

I think from my exploration, that the designers of the 50's over-rated the strength of their plywood. The teak sole of my old cockpit still had plenty of life left.

The 1/2" plywood substrate on the other hand, was flexing. I'd bet it was springy from day one but at this point, when you stepped into the well from the benches, you'd see the binnacle lurch in your direction. So my #1 design item was a 3/4" substrate for the sole.

It's easy to re-design after the weak areas are exposed.

He couldn't line up the screws?
You’re kidding right?! For those who don’t know, you stagger the screw locations across the length of a beam so it doesn’t split down the middle from being screwed down a straight line. . The new sole being vacuum bagged won’t have that unsightly look, however, I think the new teak looks fugly. Poor grain orientation and a knot or 2 forward of the pedestal base. 🤢

Interesting how far forward the keel is, I wouldn't have anticipated that. Then again, I'm not an NA.

I think it might be expensive to own…

You know that freshly-milled teak doesn't even out in color until the surface oxidizes a bit, right? Variations in color are the norm when it comes out of the thickness planer or drum sander.

Having said that, there are a couple of pieces of wood in the cockpit sole that I probably wouldn't have used. I also might have run the grain in the corner block pieces for the drains at 45 degrees instead of parallel to the cockpit sole strakes, just to reduce the chance of the little corner nibs breaking off. But that's just the way my mind works.

However, once this is installed on the boat, and had a couple of weeks in the sun, it will probably all look just fine.

It’s not the color, it’s the grain that gets my eye. It’s all one piece that was milled down and I would have avoided book matching any of the boards. But that’s just me and my lowly opinion. Out of thousands of pieces of teak that I have, only a few have that grain run.

It's a good thing that not all woodworkers think alike. What a boring world it would be!

Here's part of the teak decks I laid on my last boat. Glued, not screwed. Some temporary fastenings used to hold things while the glue cured. (Teak Decking Systems adhesive)

Are there some things I would do differently today? Of course!

Incidentally, there's nothing more than morning dew in the decks in these pictures, but they had been completely under cover inside my "temporary" (10 years) backyard boatshed until shortly before these pictures were taken. These are just scans from pre-digital photos taken in 1996.

I was remiss not getting her name however in my defence she was so damned big one would have needed a helicopter to get a decent view of her transom.
Not sure if she is Dona as all her bow jewellery and strikers are stainless and no portholes.

Oh I think you're right and I'm mistaken. The bowsprit is different. Mystery yacht above, Dona below.
I wonder who she is then!
