Ah, i've realised one of the issues here, let's start with the basics.
Zero is not a real number, it depends where it is used as to what it means.
Sure 100 years is only different to 100,000 or 100,000,000 years because of the zeroes, but each zero if it is AFTER a number means there are your fingers worth more of that thing.
Try it with something you likely have at hand, leggo pieces or stacking blocks.
Just try the 1 to 10 trick and get back to us, do it a few times to make sure it sticks.

For themselves. According to what I’ve read, only 1/3 of US rivers were healthy for fishing and swimming in the ’70s and air pollution was much worse. Left unregulated, we are absolutely willing to destroy the environment for short term financial reasons.

Federal environmental regulation used to be a bipartisan enterprise, and past Republicans deserve a lot of credit. But times have changed. We’ve gone from Nixon creating the EPA to Trump calling it a disgrace and GOP members introducing a bill to terminate the EPA.

We are currently in an ice age. Some research does show that temperatures have been rising moderately since the last glacial period of the current ice age. However, it is the increased rate of change that is concerning.
