My granddaughter (who is a doctor) is in Middlemore (South Auckland NZ) at the moment, tells me about half of the young (under 15) regardless of the reason they are admitted, have the virus. Virtually none are admitted because they have the virus and most don't know they have it.
May ambulance friends tell me about half the young (under 30) have had it and don't know they have had it.
I hope we have flattened the curve enough so the hospitals will not be overwhelmed. 900 in hospital, 19 in ICU and 2 deaths yesterday.

It’s over. Any control over Covid we had is over. Duty doctor today. I’ve lost count of the number of patients I’ve seen with classic Covid symptoms NOT A SINGLE PERSON has isolated or done a PCR test. Everyone’s mixing & infecting each other. There is no control. It’s over.
Just a little reminder that covid is still with us. People are still dying from it. China is trying to stem a big outbreak - probably because the Sinovax was shit.

I was getting used to living with this virus but (I haven't had it yet and it seems very catchable!) but I have shrunk a little back into my NZ shell!

After successfully avoiding Covid for 26 months I learned I was exposed on 6 May, tested positive on 10 May, felt very poorly for 2 days (headache, sore throat, fever) and now I am again feeling ok if a bit tired.
I am 72 years, vaccinated and double boosted and took a course of Paxlovid which I was offered due to my age. I attended the event I was exposed at with my 97 year old mother, she did not get it.
Glad you are doing well, am sure the vaccines helped your immunity. Am twice vaccinated and once-boosted but still take precautions since why get sick if you can avoid it?
The situation in N Korea could get terribly bad. Nobody is vaccinated and there could be a million infected now. Especially the elderly could get devastated.
Maybe it will be an opportunity to establish that S Korea, the US, everyone else wants a good outcome for humanity.

Actually Paxlovid if taken early enough reduces the illness substantially (90%?)

When having my hair cut recently, I was solemnly told it is our civic duty now to get Covid to boost herd immunity. Uh-huh. Knowing several vaccinated people whose lives were washed out for months with long Covid, I plan to dodge that particular duty as long as I can. And yes, I've had 3 vaccinations.

I started it the day of my positive test, 3 tablets morning and night for 5 days.
I had no side effects and as I take no medication drug interaction was not a concern. I am a week from my positive test and while not 100% feeling pretty good

That's great news. We are having similar results here in geriatric Russell.
I am nearly eighty and hope it does the same for me if the virus gets me.

My mother is 97, she survived the war (her parents and her siblings did not) got her vaccinations and looks at this like a small irritant. Perspective no?
