There must be quite a back story on that one. Maybe Y-M T could give us at least some of it?
In better times. I do nor know what happened within the past 2 years after SerenadeWind sold the boat.

What a neat boat! Lots of interesting ideas, starting with the rig.

I particularly like the large deck hatch for removing the engine.

The current condition of that boat is an absolutely heartbreaking tragedy.

Captain Dave, were you in Falmouth? I saw a couple CW 57’S when we were there.
Yes we've been there several times this season, bright blue sistership Agility was there too for a while. We're off to FL on the 18th to do our lithium battery install, then an Atlantic Circle this summer.

Wow, how does such a lovely boat get reduced to that mess in 2 years?

I don't think it does. I believe the Serenade Wind vessel is the Rachel J Slocum currently listed for $249,000 on Yachtworld.

It's confusing as the couple are all Serenade Wind but that is their blog or something rather than the boat name.

After quickly scanning their website I would have to guess that they (the Serenade Wind couple) are another example of someone who commits to a fantasy sailing lifestyle but then meets the reality, especially in a boat that big.

I, for example, managed to hit a live dolphin show tank with a show in progress yesterday but that was in my little F242 so it just went BANG and chipped a little gelcoat off. This was due to a moment's inattention and over estimating my ability to judge my position in space/time.

But I am used to taking my sailing lumps and it was a little boat so little damage, quite different than getting into trouble on a 50'er.

So the faithful hound and I, after standing by while the excited dolphin people checked for damage to the tank and not finding any, continued on to Punta Maroma for a lovely day.

After two years of dreaming and fantasy and buying the boat they survived, wait for it……..five weeks of living aboard at the dock before they bailed and decided to sell the boat. That must be a new record……..five weeks. Beggars belief…..

So we think there are two of these custom Tanton schooners out there? The wreck on Craigslist is pretty clearly the same design.

Yes I think so- the Yachtworld listing says the RJS was built at the Shing Sheng yard in Taiwan- apparently they built at least one other (the handyman special).... authorized? Maybe not? There have been past reports of Taiwan yards continuing to produce vessels without the designer's involvement and in some cases without paying the design fee.

Taking the completely unfounded wild speculation further, could the handyman special have been built in a substandard way resulting in her current state? Interesting that the HS also notes a kevlar hull.

Oof. Those kinds of boat websites are often a bit too personal and revealing - just scanning them, you see how much personal “information” people like to reveal to the world. They (she?) gushes on the site, almost as one would do in a personal/private journal, revealing hopes, dreams, fears, etc. It does indeed appear to be a bit-off-more-than-you-can-chew kinda thing - but that’s just speculation. The boat had good pedigree - did a circumnavigation via the Horn according to the description on their (the couple’s) website. But, honestly, I wonder, why not start with something a bit smaller and simpler…well, maybe with an MBA in finance from Wharton (I learned that from their site too) you really believe that you are a Master of the Universe (thank you, Tom Wolfe :) )…and you learn quickly it’s really not quite that simple to go from a combined 50 years of corporate life (another factoid they proudly, or maybe with sadness?, state on their site) to that kinda leap without lotsa hard work and a steep learning curve…

I do not know of a sistership having been built. The yard was very reputable being an offshoot of Tashing. I think, Mr Pinney, he lived in Taiwan during the construction; even bought a bar: the Stormy Weather, and myself would have been made aware of a second boat.
