OK I just figured out what I am going to do with myself in my 70s. I am going to beat the iceboat world speed record--whatever it is when I get there.
Here's some background for prep! There was great ice out here last season thanks to cold and not much snow (bad if you're a skier). People were skating on "wild ice" in places that hadn't been skated on in a generation.

And a different record attempt also on Canyon Ferry:

Thread drift over....

Well, the FB seller says it's an Arrow. If it wasn't ID'ed as an Arrow I would have said Celebrity (never heard of an Arrow until now).

Google search of the boatbuilder in the FB listing shows this:

And a picture of an Arrow from an interesting perspective.

hmm, dish-shaped cross section but also kinda heavy looking. But it was a 1935 design meant to be built in wood, so that's understandable.

The Celebrity is a lovely little boat, an uncle of mine had one.

Celebrities aren't as deep as the picture, less v in bottom. We had a few sailing in Quogue, NY, now they are sitting on trailers and not being sailed,

Well… I last sailed a nineteen year old Snipe 5525  and won the last regatta I sailed on it in 1965.

The for sale boat is fifty four years newer but two years older than my boat was when I last sailed it…

if the 2000 boat has not been sailed much and it hasn’t been destroyed by the incompetence of those who have been storing it, you may have anything from a Diamond in the rough to a total piece of shit.

The Snipe needs a good wash to better evaluate the condition. As to the observation that the mast could be bent - think of it this way - it may have a nice PREBEND so the racing setup could be simpler. LOL

Well, not on Craigslist yet, but I will be selling The Dink because I have a Rocket Coming.

If any forum members want to get a jump on it (I'm not going to FL for a month, but it could be picket up off the rack...or when I get down). (Boat is in Sarasota).

It's The Dink w a new (nice!) set of Aluminum Oars and the full sail kit - would cost over $3K new. As I do with anything I own, I made it better - replaced the ss oar sockets, the new oars, cleaned and vanished the wood and so on. Sail is in great shape. I really like it as a rowboat - I am getting the row kit with my Rocket so that should do me for the future.

Oh, I'll be asking about 6 - but for a forum member figure five and a 1/2

Here's the quote from former thread.

I bought some nice oars (the powder coated aluminum ones on eBay from Fl - heavy duty!) - took the lettering off, polished up the seats and cleaned it. Checked out everything, got the manual and took it out for a row. Great! I love it. It floats really high (lots of freeboard) due to build height and flotation built in. Stored it over at the Squadron- in 10 minutes I can be in the water.

The worst part of it is the bottom paint - which, as you all know, tends to bleed and stain your hands or whatever else. I sprayed some 303 on it which seems to solve that temp - I don't want to sand the bottom paint off this year.

If you see The Dink (orange letters will name it LIL MOTT in the Bay in Sarasota, give me a wave! No, not that kind of wave. A hand wave. Plenty of power boats here to give me real waves.

Next experiment is to add the wifey to the load. If it still floats well and she enjoys I will rig up some kind of small electric motor so we can just go land on a beach or sandbar for fun).

Aqua Finn, two actually, in North Carolina. This Gov auction site has these two plus three American Daysailers for sale(auction). From some of the pictures it looks like they may offer a Sunfish at some point and it seems to say that there are eight of the Aqua Finns in total.
