Star - $450 with trailer

The guy selling it is about as sketchy as they come. No title for boat or trailer, will not look up the sail number and won't say where he got it from. Does anyone recognize the boat?

It's also a little odd that the boat has Missouri registration but the boom has Illinois registration.

What year/manufacturer of the Bucc? 1200 may not be too bad, especially with a trailer.

Of course, I love me some Bucc goodness. Not as much as JimmyY does, but I love me some Bucc.

Pic is one the owner sent me before i bought it.
1976 chrysler. Its old but in good condition,mainsail # not this boat and upgrades and trailer seemed like pretty good value for around here.

If we get serious about the Bucc we csn always upgrade to a newer boat later on.

We already wetsanded the bottom paint of and found the bottom to be solid and pretty fair.

Don't know where you are, but that's a damned good buy, PO definitely spent a good bit more than you did!

Why? Someone has loved that boat and it has gotten them out sailing. That is a win! We have one at our sailing center here in VT. Missing more than a few parts. I have thought it might be a good boat for the EC. Not light but not an awful hull shape. BTW, there is a Sidewinder too. The hull is amazing. Not sure where it has been all these years but it is shiny with no scratches. Amazing

Just picked up a FD (1976 Advance build) for a song on ebay, with trailer and new tires.

I have a US1 built by them and it is a really solid boat, other than the places they used ply. (Already replaced with corecell and glassed...)

Anyone know about the advance built FDs?

I would love to see pics of the EC boats, I have a Tornado I was thinking about doing for that, but if the FD is a better choice...

I am thinking a small fixed sprit, A sail. It has a snuffer already, so that would be sweet.

Sorry, the Advance boats I knew were the old FJs. No knowledge of FD save they were popular then. Must have been stiff and fast.

Plastrend was another FD maker and maybe Harken (???) out of Milwaukee??? Other than US boat makers, no clue but have not had coffee yet.

Vanguard was in Milwaukee for a while back in the old days. Harken never built boats AFAIK

Advance was also in the Midwest, Kansas City I think. They didn't use core or wood backing (at least in the boats I know) and made a LOT of FJs and Sweet 16s, not sure what other classes they built. Good boats, a little heavy maybe but Advance FJs were quite competitive back in the day.

I don't think these old hulls will stand up to the strain of putting modern sailplans on them without some structural work; but if you just throw some working-class rigging on there and sail it, there should be plenty of fun.

Vanguard built a few FDs in the 1970s. The first Lindsey boats were built on Vanguard hull shells.

Dynamic Plastics ( Paul Hemker) , in New Paris also built FDs.

My first FD was a Plastrend (I think) with a full self bailing double bottom. Good for a starter boat when the inevitable capsizes happened but tough on a tall skipper to get under the boom. Boat was pretty soft but it was an older model. Second boat was a Vanguard and much more competitive and easier to sail with only a half double bottom fwd of the traveller. Saw a few Maders at the big regattas and they were a sight to behold. They ended up dominating at the top levels.
