That's what I am hoping.

Although who knows what the plan will be then.

3 years ago, swmbo and I were planning for a 42 - 44', suitably aged.

Wife much prefers 30'. Within her physical capabilities and I am starting to agree with her.

Now we are going down the path of 2 x approx. 30' cruisers, one for local sailing kept somewhere easy (and more expensive slip), I know our Irwin 30 competition is heresy but the restoration/modernization process has made us fall for it for coastal etc. Its a keeper for us.

The other would be a dedicated bluewater 30 ish'. Can be much further from the ocean, kept in ready to go mode.

When we get too old for bluewater, sell that, buy a stink boat for the ICW.

When we get too old for inshore, sell the Irwin and dunno, have no idea what the world will be like hopefully at least 25 years from now.

Probably sounds crazy to most.
Not really crazy. You have to start with a plan, no matter where/how you end up.

We just started our 10-year trajectory into retirement. We've been getting all our ducks in a row so we can stop working, keep our lifestyle going, and head for the horizon. I think we have our forever boat for now. Just gotta keep maxing out our retirement contributions and we should be in good shape. It will be sooooo nice not having a schedule and having to find internet by Monday morning when we are out harbor hopping and passage making.

Keep stashing the money away in those retirement accounts. Even then, things can take you by surprise, like the last 18 months of the stock markets, which was a multi-year setback for us.

Shame, that. The Colgate 26 is a great day boat and a fun and fast sailer. You can fit 6 adults comfortably in that cockpit with no one in the way of those that want to handle lines and such.

Not to divert from the thread too much, but we visited South Georgia on a luxury cruise (from these guys). It is a remarkable place to visit. There are tens of thousands of king penguins in one place with hundreds of sea lions. You can wander about and they ignore you. You can also visit Shackleton's grave.

Speaking of penguins, saw this today:

Presenting the ETCHELLS "SPECIAL EDITION":

Not sure if this belongs in Not Mocking or Mocking or Coolboats, looks like pretty nice work for one person's interpretation of the gentleman's daysailer (if misguided!)...

IMO Etchells, Solings, etc. need an active one-design fleet to make racing enjoyable. In lieu of a local, active class association making one of these into gentleman's daysailor seems like a good option.
