HI Team,

I'm a long-time lurker of the SA forums but first time poster on here....
Sorry no tits unless you are happy with a random internet download and then I am happy to comply,

I am starting to finalise my cruising plans and have spent the last couple of years trawling here and the rest of the internet for the most suitable performance catamaran with the idea of taking off in 2025 so need to order a boat shortly.
I've been to Outremer and am planning a trip to Kinetic.
Recently on Sailworld and on the O'Kelly's Youtube channel, I saw a couple of articles and videos about an outfit in Australia, Cure Marine, that talk a big game about technology and doing some pretty cool stuff.

Does anyone have any experience with Cure? or any intel on building boats in Australia?

On paper, their 55 looks really, really good so any feedback would be appreciated,

Well, it doesn’t look like they’ve actually built anything. All they have to offer at this point seems to be press releases and renderings. Their website doesn’t appear to work, at least not for me. I found some info via press releases and brokerage pages offering new builds.

None of that bodes well for you time frame. You would be the Guinea pig for a very complicated boat (and possibly company for that matter). Seems like a multi million dollar gamble on something with no ROI except the RTW experience, which of course is what you ultimately want. Why put that in jeopardy by being the Guinea pig? Looks like a cool platform, and it would be great to see them succeed, however if it was my money and time on the line, I would go with an outfit with an established record of delivery.

I saw the 55’er the other day but only from the road. It’s being built at the Coolum Beach Industrial park which is just down the road from my place.It looks to be pretty well advanced, maybe close to finishing the shell.
They are also building a 70’er which is also well advanced, it’s down on the Gold Coast and was shown on an O’Kelly’s YouTube video.
There’s a story on the Sailworld site with photos, it looks absolutely awesome and is being built for the previous owner of Attitude, a 50 something footer Schionning.

I think Google sometimes takes some time to cath up- I think that feild is already new sheds all for this production line, this is a fully blown & happenign thing. I am involved with Sails for the Carbon 72' Cat nearing completion and the 55's. Hall Spars is doing the 55's rigs, the 72 has a Carbon Lorima rig coming. This is all comes from boat builders who stopped building when that industry fell flat in our country, they went elswhere had huge success in non boating laminated products and that success has now given the opportunity to re-enter the boat building world in a rather big way. I have been pretty blown away from what I have seen on the ground already to be pretty honest. Personally I have my favourite boat builder for a one off custom build if I had the coin, but this is a different approach that falls somewhere between the one off exotic build option that is a full cost blowout and the overseas production boats that mostly don't have the uniqueness of these lightweight performance boats. I work with many boatbuilders globally, we are lucky to have such huge growth in Multis and have so many amazing boats out there for new buyers- but take note these guys are coming in pretty hot in my view.

Very interesting!
I just spent an over an hour on video call with one of the guys at Cure Marine.
He was aware of this thread so maybe he will pop up at some stage and give some information to the group.

Not my job to tell their story but really interesting to see how they have approached this project and the business as a whole.
Even in a video call, the application of technology was pretty cool especially that 23m long 3D printer!
As said above, the custom 70 that looked well progressed is incredible and looks on par with what we have all got so used to seeing out of Gunboat.

I have to say that with the information that I have been given so far on the 55, I might have a new frontrunner in my search for a new boat.

Congrats on your plans.

If you want to go cruising in 2025 in a new boat that’s commissioned, debugged, and ready to travel, you’re probably a year late ordering the boat. Oh well.

As written above I’d still be wary of a new operation regardless of their experience elsewhere. A well worn path to owning a boatyard……

The Cure 55 looks nice, but it also looks a little generic to be honest. Maybe the advantage is they have delivery slots available?

But assuming you are a US resident, don‘t discount how hard it is to pull of a semi-custom new build on the other side of the world. It’s challenging enough in your own time zone….

By way of introduction, my name is Lee Randall and I am the BDM for Cure Marine on the Sunshine Coast in Australia,
The timing of this thread is pretty good as we had been talking to Jaxon about SA advertising anyway so this is a good introduction!

Thanks to @Sailsouth for asking some pretty good questions, both above and during our chat.
Thanks to @Lowgroove also for the shoutout. Any project, production or otherwise, needs good people and the Cure 55 project is lucky enough to have had great access to the North Technology Group.
Put quite simply the team at Cure Marine has, what I believe to be one of the highest concentrations of talent ever seen in this sector. We have been lucky enough to have most of our senior team acquire experience in all areas of the marine industry and we have some incredible composite engineers and builders.
Nearly all team members are active avid boaters and water people and have bought this experience to bear at every step of the design process.

To address some of the points above,
Cure Composites have been around for over a decade and have been responsible for the launch of some pretty well known boats including "ZERO", "CHILL PILL", "TULLY TOO" and "BLACK JACK TOO".
The partners took a hiatus from boat building 7 years ago to concentrate on other composite projects and companies including Australia's most innovative camper company "Zone RV" and "Link Composites" who have enjoyed massive success in the commercial flat panel sector.

Boats are a funny thing though, they always drag you back!
When the opportunity came to embark on the new CURE CUSTOM 70 project, it was not a hard decision to step back in. This boat will be absolutely insane with some incredible detail and some amazing componentry coming from French powerhouse Lorima. Personally I am really excited to see how the t-foiled rudders with 6degrees of top bearing adjustment influence the sailing of the boat!
About the same time as this project kicked off, the partners decided that the economic temperature was right to establish a new production brand and so we now have Cure Marine.

The location posts above were pretty funny because its insane to look at how far this industrial estate has come in a short time. We currently have the Custom 70 being built in our custom facility and we are building tooling for the 55 production in one of Link Composites sheds whilst we wait for our new 3500sqm facility to be opened in April 2023.
There has been a big push to utilize leading edge technology across the group, most notably the commissioning of the new 23mtr x 5mtr 3D printer that will produce its first production parts shortly at our sister company "One Composites" about 300mtrs from where I sit now.
We have a very strong "Industry 4.0" and design for manufacture process in play with everything we do. We aim to make our optimizations and changes before we build a boat.... not during the build process.

What does all of the above mean?
Quite simply, we are aiming to build boats faster, more efficiently and above all lighter! And all to CE certified standards.
Its not a question of reinventing the wheel, we just want to raise the bar!

The Cure 55 project was conceived to be a true sailors boat and able to be handled shorthanded. We expect to produce a boat with which people can really connect with the ocean and experience the thrill of sailing over a wide performance envelope whilst being "off-grid"

Two of these new models(power) already have build slots sold so are guaranteed to progress past the concept stage!
