I was actually referring to the folks in the far eastern part of Europe. Of course the Canadians contribute to the effort and did so in a fine fashion.

Having grown up in height of the Cold War, everything we learned in school in history class ended at the West German Border.

I was a patient in a German hospital a few years ago. The resident that was treating me was a young man from Moscow. We were talking one day and I told him that in spite of the excesses of the Soviet Union, as a serious amateur historian of WWII history, I had to admit that the Soviets did the bulk of the bleeding to defeat Germany, and western history often glosses over that fact. He replied "Thank you."

That’s probably correct…….I tell people I did not leave the Republican Party…..it left me….and that was a couple decades ago with the gulf widening. ☹️
