Cut the cable. We did 5 years ago and haven't looked back. We stream our stuff via apps like Hulu, Netflix, Disney+ for the kids, etc. Works great.

I cut cable years ago. Bought this andriod base box, xbmcmart. Seems to work ok. It does buffer sometimes. Its not 5g but i could hardwire to solve this. It does get every channel and lastest movie releases. Not sure if its legal but they sell it on Amazon.

They just laid underground fiber on our street. The local Internet company is promising gigabit fiber into our house. All for less than ATT <spit> is charging for "Up To" 10 MBPS of sketchy service.

Friend here in the Floriduh swamp has StarLink. He finds it acceptable, but misses the days before Elon started supporting the Ukrainians.
News flash. Elon likes the Ruskies now.

Here in the UK you have to pay £159 per year to receive any TV channel online or over the air.
That money is used by the BBC to provide 8 TV channels, 20 national radio networks and 50 local radio stations.
But on our national TV network there are 70 free TV channels ( +15 in HD) ( including the BBC channels) plus 30 radio stations. We were quite happy with that, but then we got Amazon Prime, because we are always ordering things. That gave access to lots of films and TV series. SWMBO loves that.

Me I only watch the news, and factual / hobby programmes like "The Repair Shop", and history . If I've got really bored I've been known to watch American football, the abridged versions.. The full games are death by boredom..a bit like a 5 day test match.

Did the repair shop get started up again? Great show but I thought they cancelled it?

Repair shop has never been cancelled, they just had to stop production during COVID lockdown, and then film a reduced number during COVID restrictions.
We are currently watching series 11, they are recording series 12 at the moment. (14 episodes)

FYI..

I called Spectrum today to pull the plug on cable TV, and they offered a deal that will save us about $100 per month.
  1. There is a Spectrum app that you can load onto or smart TV or Roku or AppleTV, which will give you the local channels.
  2. You can add up to 15 other channels, such as ESPN, MSNBC, USA Network. There’s quite a list to choose from.
  3. Includes DVR
  4. You turn in your cable box.
I think this is about where we would have been $-wise had we dropped the Spectrum cable and added SlingTV for the extra channels. And it saves us from having to get an antenna for the local channels.

We made the change, i.e. cut the cable.
