Joe Fly is out of the race. We don't know why yet, though they did have the kite halyard hang up on the jib drum at the hounds on the drop. They're sailing upwind with only a main, and just radioed Luigi...shit!

Here are some photos from yesterday and this morning.

A few more pics from yesterday:

You might be able to see what happened to Joe Fly at this leeward mark rounding.

And here's the rest of the fleet.

06/06/2008 - 11:56

On the Gold course, bow number 4 led 55 and 27 at the leeward gate and maintained that lead over the same two boats at the second windward mark. On the Silver course, bow number 23 led 1 and 95 at the leeward gate and at the second windward mark bow number 23 led 71 and 95.

Bow 62 is back at the dock, main rolled up, looking to beat the haulout rush perhaps. No word from Joe Fly yet...

5 minutes until attention signal. Wind has gone lighter still, just under 10 knots. Enjoy these pics from the last race.

Results are up, and it looks like it's going to be hard for anyone to catch Uka Uka. Then again, it's damned easy for anyone, including Bressani, to get screwed at the start and lose 20 places.

Here's the last top rounding I think from Race 10.

Half the fleet is over the line, general recall. Luigi: "We have gotta get these races off, so get back here now - no fartin' around."

290 degrees, 2 NM, course 4.

Just heard our gal pal and former Inside Voice, Lamorak, Sevenstar crew Laura Muma found a ride on Cold Duck in the silver fleet today after one of their crew came down with a nasty lung/gastro infection. Go Muma.

Blu Moon, Altea, Rocard, Code Zero all over early, with HUGELY costly return to the ends. Blu Moon just lost its chance to win this regatta, and Uka Uka will clinch it with two decent races.

Joe Fly broke something on their mast - my guess is that it's the ever-problematic jib sheave that a bunch of boats have already broken. There's a fix from Melges, but it's still no good. Look for that to change this year at some point. Harry and Andy tried to get a zipper luff system passed at the AGM last year, but it didn't pass, and there's still no good solution. Harry's idea was a T-ball at the hounds to replace the current wire halyard and sheave, with the sail going up on a zipper.

Sad result, and tough regatta for Joe Fly, who just won the very tight Italian Nationals just three weeks ago here in Sardinia at Cagliari.

For all you dumbasses who haven't registered yet, do it now. It's at the top of your screen. Where you see nothing but lists of filenames, everyone else sees lovely pictures courtesy of my lovely wife.

From our shore crew: "Joe Fly in marina - out of the races for remainder. The owner (can't remember his name) looked so dejected I wanted to hug him. He didn't know the word in English but he said something serious broke and couldn't be repaired in a short time - something about where the mast attaches to the boat but couldn't get more info. from him. he really didn't want to talk. don't blame him. and I was getting bummed doing computer work in the yacht club. guess he's gotta be REALLY bummed.

Go Carlo and Hoochy Coochy!"

Giovanni is such a sweet guy, and so hugely passionate about racing, and this sucks ass. Maybe he'll switch to Ullman now...

BTW annapolis boys: The folks I spoke to are very happy to hear that you have the party situation under control for Worlds next year. I hope NAs is a bit of a trial horse.
