Nice and green twist on the Dehler 30OD

9 MB has the same length and comes from the same drawing board as Dehler 30 OD, but there are differences SEILMAGASINET

9 MB will be the designer's perfect boat. Matthias Bröker at Judel-Vrolijk has developed a boat for himself, a boat that will be suitable for Silverrudder. 9 MB is the name of the boat which can be described as a narrower and nicer version of the Dehler 30 OD from the same design office. Both boats are 9.14 meters long, which makes it the largest in the smallest class in the popular regatta, which is sailed without measurement rules. Dehler 30 OD made a clean sweep in 2022 with all the places on the podium.

Kinder

The Dehler 30 OD is an extreme boat. It has a lot of sail at a low weight, built to plan. 9 MB will be kinder. It has a slightly smaller canvas. It also gets a shallower but heavier keel. It also gives a total weight that is 250 kilograms heavier, a weight that is in the keel.
9 MB is also 13 cm narrower. It also only gets one rudder. We can assume that the 9 MB can be a stronger boat on cruises at the expense of the veiling properties.

Green

9 MB will be built with a lower environmental footprint. The boat is built in collaboration with Greenboats, who have experience in this. Instead of fiberglass, the hull is reinforced with linen. A biological epoxy is used to hold the fibers together. Hull and deck will have a sandwich construction. The core is balsa.
Several fast 30-footers are being developed in more sustainable materials.
SIMPLE: The 30-footer gets a simple interior with tubular berths aft.

Won the debut regatta, now Skagen awaits

Oslofjorden Rundt breathed life into the shorthanded environment in Eastern Norway. Sigmund Hertzberg and Tim Sandberg went to the top in a new boat.

"Hyrrokkin" is now a Dehler 30 OD, a smaller boat than the Sun Fast 3300, but with higher measurements. The 30-footer sailed in the large class, but also won the short-handed class overall.
- It was fun, and a bit unexpected. It was Tim Sandberg's first trip on board, but he is Norway's best light-wind sailor, so it went well, Hertzberg says on the phone.
There were easy conditions during the regatta, both Friday and Saturday, and Friday in particular was demanding.

Coincidences

- On Friday, it was only us, together with two others, who reached the finish line before the wind disappeared completely. We didn't have much either, but got over the line with a bit of momentum. There were many sail changes, and it was good training before the Skagen Race, explains the winner.

He describes how they were lucky on Friday. "Hyrrokkin" had the last start, and got the north wind only when the wind turned from the south. A coincidence that "Hyrrokkin" took advantage of.
- There was a lot of light wind sailing, and our light, small boat glides well in light winds, says Hertzberg. The Dehler 30 OD has even higher numbers than the Farr 30, and sailed faster than the two Farr 30 boats that took part.
EASY: Mirror-clear water on Saturday, but the spinnaker was filled with wind.

Magic regatta

- Around the Oslofjord has become our favorite sailing throughout the year. Friday night is always magical, and it was this year as well, says Hertzberg. Oslofjorden Rundt is a regatta with a long history, but a declining number of participants. It looked bleak this year, but there was a wave of entries at the last minute, and there were a total of 40 boats. Almost half of these sailed doublehanded.

- The regatta was well organized, and it was nice that we got a cut on Saturday. The water was completely crystal clear, but there was a small draft a few meters above the water's surface, which we sailors managed to exploit, says Hertzberg.

Ready for Skagen

All on Wednesday, the start of the Skagen Race, for the Ultra participants. "Hyrrokkin" has all been moved to Holmestrand.
- We are ready for the Skagen Race, but there are a number of small things that need to be put in place. We sailed without wind instruments this weekend, and it should be in place before the start. There is a lot that needs to be fixed, says the skipper of the winning boat.

Wants varied relationships

- The forecasts for the Skagen Race change all the time. We now saw that we can do well in light winds, but it will be more fun with more wind from behind. Changing conditions suit us well, says Hertzberg.

The forecasts for Færder Lighthouse, Wednesday 17 May, say fresh winds from the north, turning west.

Competitor from Sweden

Z30+ "Zeus" can be a tough challenger for "Hyrrokkin" during the Skagen race. This 30-footer is also light and fast, and has even higher measurements. "Zeus" has 1.162, the highest measurement number in the class. The 30-footer should even sail faster than the Dehler 44 "Off Course" which has a gauge of 1.110. "Hyrrokkin" has 1,029 and may also have Figaro II "Tetraktys" ahead of him at the finish line.
- With two Volvo Ocean Race sailors on board, "Zeus" will be a challenge. With two good sailors, they will sail fast, even if one is resting. This is not the case in all the other boats, says Hertzberg.
