I paid about $7/mile for a team of 2. $3500 over 4 1/2 days. Almost $500/day/person for an offshore.
Sounds like $388 each for 24Hr..... you round up like my wife.

$250-500 day for the skipper plus a hand @ 150-250.

Hey - I am looking to hire a delivery skipper to do an inshore delivery that will take 2 days (daylight sailing only). Any thoughts on a reasonable price range for a day rate?

I spoke to a guy that sounded good, but his rate seemed a bit steep.
Have you PM'd Billy Backstay? I would ask him if he is available, price and a recommendation of someone in the event he is not available.

This guy delivers boats all over the place and even uses text to keep others posted on some needs, some of the time.

You may want someone local with current references who does this type of delivery on a regular basis with the ability to articulate a float plan for the conditions. Or go for it and post updates here along with some tits for the sailors stuck at the office to enjoy at your expense.

25 years ago I got 250 per day offshore as captain.
30 years ago I got $1.35-1.50 / mile (plus expenses) for offshore deliveries... so we were in the same ballpark.

References, tax ID, my own insurance, USCG licenses, etc. almost like a real business.

And, yeah, the boat always showed up in better condition than when it left. That was pretty much part of the service.

Thx for the replies. As suspected the original quote was way off the market. The departure is on the nj side of the east river.

The only reason for no overnight is that some delivery guys prefer day only. I'm agreeable to whatever works.

If I had the time to do it myself, I would go straight through, overnight, on the outside, with a couple of friends.

Just a random recommendation. Find a skipper who has good references and let him/her figure it out.

Putting on an artificial constraint ("no overnight") makes things more complicated than they need to be, when at the end of the day all you really care about is that your boat ends up in the right place, on schedule and budget, and in good shape.

I have not been back home in 5-6 years. But unless Christie annexed Manhattan- the starting point would be the NJ side of the Hudson.

As sledracr said, hire the captain and let him plan it out.

Easy to find NJ----- even the Statue of Liberty turns her back on it....

Jersey side of the East River ...... last I checked the East River wanders through Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.

And at Whitehall the East River is now the North River. No part of Jersey touches the East River.

So ... the delivery is from Weehawken or thereabouts basically ... where is the end destination? I'll do it for $500 a day, and you will have to fly me to and from Maine.

I'm not licensed, but leave me a couple of cases of decent beer, two bottles of casamigos anejo, and an ounce of weed and I'll bring yer boat where you want to in the sound gratis.
Double that and you have a crew.

Compared to my 26 footer we would have enough room to not see each other for the extent of the trip
