People who are appropriately sycophantic to Trump swear he possesses a certain charm and charisma. Even those who are eager to vouch for DeSantis don’t say this about him. He would launch any charm offensive unarmed.

Like Trump, DeSantis has a feral, shameless quality. As an underdog candidate for governor in 2018, DeSantis showed a remarkable willingness to prostrate himself before the then-president, even by the cringey standards of Trump-era toadyism. The apex—or nadir—of this effort involved an ad in which the candidate is shown reading a bedtime story to his baby son, the latter clad in a red Make America great again onesie.

“Then Mr. Trump said, ‘You’re fired,’” the doting dad reads. This gambit proved wildly effective for DeSantis, propelling the backbencher congressman to an upset victory in the Republican primary. There might be no better example of a candidate allowing his political identity—and self-respect—to be totally devoured by his allegiance to Trump, at least for as long as it suited him. For the sake of the child, hopefully this scene will never be spoken of again.

The pure nerve that allowed DeSantis to so debase himself before Trump and then promptly turn against his former kingmaker could serve him well.

DeSantis, Who Once Praised Vaccines, Now Wants To Prosecute Those Who Pushed Them

The move adds to the Republican demonization of medical experts and helps DeSantis improve his standing with the anti-vaccine GOP base.

“Today, I’m announcing a petition with the Supreme Court of Florida to impanel a statewide grand jury to investigate any and all wrongdoing in Florida with respect to COVID-19 vaccines,” he said.

The move puts DeSantis squarely on the side of the anti-vaccination activists in the Republican voting base and, more generally, a broader GOP effort to demonize retiring White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci and other mainstream medical experts ahead of an expected presidential run in 2024.

“Our CDC, at this point, anything they put out, you just assume, at this point, that it’s not worth the paper it’s printed on,” DeSantis said Tuesday, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Yet just two years ago, as the vaccines were first becoming available, DeSantis put together a massive effort to inoculate Florida’s elderly against COVID. Dubbed “Seniors First,” the program included an aggressive public affairs campaign to promote the vaccines and dozens of pop-up clinics to administer them, at times using a lottery system among the eligible age groups.

I think like abortion, this is the car the dog doesn't want to actually catch.
The discovery on a case like this will show plenty of scientific facts that are scientific facts, and will weed out the B.S. conspiracy theories.
I'm guessing it will backfire on Ron if it even gets to trial.

There's no trial, there's no case. Same as Don't Say Gay and STOP WOKE, it's just performance art at the cost of millions in legal fees, and capn ron continues to bet on the fact that the average florida voter doesn't notice courts and defendants handing him his ass as much as they notice the loud press conference at the beginning. Even in Florida (where the average IQ is among the lowest in the US), it will catch up with him. It always does.

DeSantis is really staking his claim as a very cynical politician with a laser focus on making a small base fanatic, rather than appeal to a larger constituency. He is vaccinated and probably boosted as well.

Corrected for more accuracy. Morning fake news had DeSantis polling way ahead of Trump. 2024 is still a long way off though, a lot could happen.

This is so fucking stupid. You can find someone who has had a bad reaction to any medicine. Tylenol. Antibiotics. Anything. All they are going to do is find a couple of people who had a bad reaction out of the millions and millions and millions and millions and millions who did not and make a little show to fire up his cult fanatics.

With good hard data showing that Republicans are dying from covid at twice the rate of Democrats you really have to wonder how he thinks this plays out. He just doesn't care. It's more important to fire up the base for some temporary gain even if that means under mining science and experts.

When there is another outbreak of something else these fucking morons are going to be plague rats.

It's not enough that Republicans are undermining the foundations of our government and democracy. They have to undermine the Scientific Revolution and enlightenment thinking. They really just want to be medieval peasants
