Steve Lirakis came by yesterday at Commodore Tompkin's 90th birthday party to ask if I knew anything about this obvious DC design in a front yard in Cotati, CA, up the road from where Steve lives. Other than looking to be a metal hull, I know nothing, and asking DC's fans if anyone knows the boat.

Anybody in or around Melbourne know what finally became of (butchered) Carter Tina ex. Belita?

Last we heard was early 2019 where then owner and anarchist globetrotter was trying to save it from the scrapper.

I think I took those photos. She was languishing unloved in a side yard at a factory in Moorabbin at the time but has since been moved because the site is being redeveloped. There was a flurry of activity on these pages when I put the photos up but I haven't heard anything of her since. IIRC original owner, RYCV stalwart Doug Anderson, passed recently?

Sorry to switch the subject a bit. Is this the same Lirakis of Lirakis Harness that was a must have as a bowman?

I've been revitalizing my father's website which now has a slick new Carter Yacht Registry for existing boats.

"Chapeau" to J-P Riou for having compiled an insanely detailed database of Carter boats a few years ago. It's the bedrock of the registry.

If you want your Carter boat included in the registry, click this link to add your boat data. Send us a pretty picture too!

https://dickcarteryachtdesigner.com/registry/

Don't worry if you don't know everything. No one does. Except maybe JP?!

And here's the website: Website: https://dickcarteryachtdesigner.com

Some of the boats we've been trying to track down include OPTIMIST, OPTIMIST B, NORYEMA VGX (VARIANA), PALYNODIE III, BELITA VI (43') and a few more TINAs:

L'ORGUEIL IV, CALLIHROE III, JORAN, VARIAG, FILPIA, DORIS(SALANGANE), SILHOUET.

ANGEL is another one. Last we heard she was in Ireland many years ago. She was David Edward's smaller TINA, and made of wood!

Dear Catherine,

My name is Lous Zuiderbaan, daughter of Henny Zuiderbaan, who sailed with Dick aboard Rabbit and Tina in the sixties. Later Jopie Bouman had Belita VI built at Maas' yard in Breskens. I have just finishes a book on my fathers life (in Dutch) called H.F.Zuiderbaan (1913 - 2011), zeiler. He and my brothers Hans and Dirk all enjoyed sailing Belita VI in the One - Ton cup races and many other races (Admirals Cup, Cowes Cork etc.) enormously. The problem is I am looking for a good, clear picture of Belita VI to use in my book. Could you help me with that?

I look forward to your reply,

Kind regards, Lous Zuiderbaan

Lous:

I suggest you contact Yves-Marie Tanton, He was the head designer in the tower when I worked for Dick. He may have a photo. Best of luck.

Hi all

Been really enjoying reading through this thread as I have recently fallen in love with an Orca 43 that I'm hoping to visit later in the month (link to the advert https://www.yachtworld.co.uk/yacht/1979-carter-orca-43-8288125/)

Me and my partner are hoping that this might be the boat to carry us around the world on our adventures.

It looks stunning and very well maintained from the poor pictures

Good winds all

Have you tried histoiredeshalfs.com?

That is basically the go to place for all things IOR boats and their whereabouts.

Here is info on Belita.

(Imho, if this site would ever be available for purchase, it would be worth more than SA. But that's just me...)

With GRP over expensive in those cheap labour days, they were an attractive and efficient alternative to carvel build, and .... the then RORC rule offered a few unintentional loopholes for Steel boats.
And Frans had not mastered (or started) to build in GRP by that time.  The first fiberglass hulls were build at the Verschure yard in Amsterdam and finished in Breskens.

Yup, he was not building any hull inhouse at the time, just sandwich boats plugs. (a scholar might wonder whether the move to an inhouse production line was a right one  ;) )

In the wild.
You guys must be talking about these two pensive gentlemen.

Picture must be from around 1968.

I remembered seeing the picture when I digitized some of my grandpa's negatives a few years ago, but finding it back again on a hard drive was a bit of a drag.
