News now has it the French have seized a big motoryacht.

Meanwhile in America... The local cops will seize your life savings if they think it's "dirty money" but the Real Estate investments of the Rooski Robber Barons are ALL safe as houses.

if Russia is at war with Ukraine could we give some expat Ukranians a PT boat or equivalent and let them torpedo those yachts? I just get the feeling that seizing a yacht is more of an annoyance than anything else and I'll bet all those oligarchs believe they will get those yachts back "when it's over".

Sinking them on the other hand sends a very harsh message and would be newsworthy inside Russia which has value in the propaganda war.

Seizing those things might sound good but it seems a little sketchy in the long run. What do you do with them?  They have no real use, and you need a medium-sized economy to continuously plunder for the upkeep and operation. Meanwhile, they fill up your harbor and run up bills.  Seems like poison.

Personally, I’d prefer to set up a simple remote steering system on them, drain most of the fuel, then drive into a Russian harbor and scuttle the damn things.

The irony is many of these oligarchs have exactly zero influence over Putin. He put most of them in business. They need him more than he needs them. He can fairly easily just kill them and find a willing replacement.

Even sex comes down to money -

Who do women choose?

The most successful guy they can get.
The most successful guy is the best candidate for mating.

Sex. Everything is about sex. Except sex. Sex is about power.

Money? Way too simple.
Everything inside us comes down to two things - power and worth.  In Putin's case power is the reason for the invasion,  stopping  will be too big a blow to his self worth, therefore he can't / won't.

how many of those yachts have been seized now ?   I bet it slows down once the captors get a quote from the local yard and learn what the  operations / maintenance / crew needs etc actually cost

Its not a 'yacht' it's more like 'gift that keeps on taking'.   a massive liability
