dmk box

I like the DMK box and we support the local Seattle guys when we can.

However, we ended up going the ShipModul route because it had a bit more flexibility (USB, filtering, etc) which we wanted.

My decision making thread here: http://forums.sailin...1
I wish I had been posting on the forums back then because I could have maybe made a case for our product. Folks get all too ready to run wires to there PC's through USB. The beauty of wifi is you can communicate without wires to laptops, tough books, and tablets at the same time. You also don't have to be a computer geek to install it and get it to work and start collecting and analyzing data. Hopefully we can bring people around with customer service and an easy user interface. If we sold a couple more box's we could even buy some advertising on SA.

Agreed, I hope so too. Solid product and friendly guys behind it.

Perhaps you have a creative solution, but I didn't see how I was going to get macENC (mac-mini) and android devices to work with your box. If you CAN do that, you might want to consider making that known to consumers like myself. I don't want to hijack the thread here, but you can see what I did with my visio layout in the other thread I posted :)

It works with the Mac Mini using ENC just through a wireless connection. The Android stuff is a little late developing because it was not until Android 4 with that we could establish a UDP connection. More stuff with Android is in the works though as well a product to help developers make better Apps without having to test it on a boat. Agreed though we need to do a better job of getting the word out. We have had our nose to the ground in development for a little too long.

I was looking at this a few months ago with the aim of mobile instrument displays but the instruments that displayed looked too limited.

I might be being lazy and not looking deep enough for the info but can you add custom 'instruments' to display in the DMK app? Eg, VMG, apparent/tru W/A, Polar targets etc? I know you can display that through some other apps but I was looking at this for playing with more dedicated displays etc.

Yes the instrument set in the DMK app is really as small as it looks; just AWA, AWS, boat speed and depth.

Compatible software is the way to go for what you want. Here are setup pages from our site for some favorites.

For a dedicated sailboat race display, I'd put an iPad in a RAM mount and run iRegatta. This is what Kevin races with:

http://dmkyacht.com/iregatta

Or if you have a PC on your boat Expedition is wonderful:

http://dmkyacht.com/expedition

Those pages should have all the info, but Kevin loves to chat so call him if you have questions. Or if you are in Seattle come out for a demo sail.

Thanks - I have iregatta but had not looked at it in a while, looks like they have added a bunch more display options. Will play around with it.
