Hard water sailors from all over the globe will descend up on Torch Lake on Saturday for the pinnacle of iceboat racing.
Torch Lake up in Northwest Michigan will be the registration point for this event. Sailors will register on Saturday, February 7th and then provided there is good clean ice, they'll start racing. As it is with iceboat racing, the regatta location is determined by the quality of the ice. So if it gets snowed out - or by some crazy weather act; melts, the 100 + sailors will pack up their gear and go else where - They have 7 days to complete the regatta.
Matt Struble, who has been dominating the DN class for a few years now, was up at Torch last weekend tuning up and sparing with the likes of Meade and Jan Gougeon and Dr. John Harper.
Struble is the favorite to win here, but as we all know, upsets are part of the game.
I'll be getting daily reports and posting them here -
