OK, My roof cost about 20k 8 years ago. WTF are you spending on that???
c-list deals
over stock of plywood on a condo build site $10 each still bundled
change order 5v steel to folding seam style on new build way more then needed but at a get it off the job site price of way less then
$1 a sq ft
and super cheap neighbors working no ins or unions 12.50 an hour
plus did way too much myself
biggest expence was super plastic peal&stick hi temp in place of tar-paper to seal the screws 3800 for that
pluss lots of minor tools screws 2x6
and lots of travel naples for the metal keys for plywood

deals are always far way

My parents' old house was decorated in 1980's American Drug Dealer theme because that's who owned it. The toilet in the master bedroom was the strangest feature.

What do you use if money really doesn't matter? Not plywood. Two inch thick double tongue, double groove cedar planks.

Just regular tongue and groove roof decking did a whole lot better than plywood when hurricane Andrew showed us all who had what. I didn't know I had a tongue and groove deck until that day.

Do you think there would be any point?

It's a very Florida spring. From left: a coconut palm with a mango tree behind it, a dead cabbage palm (for woodpeckers), a live cabbage palm (because I haven't killed it yet), two cypress trees, a baby mangrove, some hurricane Ian debris that I still haven't picked up, and a banana. The blue barrels in the background are also hurricane debris, I suppose. That's not where I left them.

The storm didn't do anything to the bridge. I was standing on it to take that picture.
We were in the Tiki Bar at the Riv last night and asked how their thatched roof held up in Ian. She said there were a few holes but they patched them up pretty quickly.

My next door neighbor finished building their house about a year before Ian. Their roof is still covered with tarp and sand bags.

We need more thatched roofs.
