So I just received my homeowners insurance and guest what it doubled from 4200 to 8530.
and that doesn't cover the full house value.
Thanks Desatan
Ours went up 35% as well. The fraud issues and Ian were two main factors is what my insurance guy said. According to him as long as its a quiet hurricane season the rates should plateau, maybe even start dropping a bit.

Some of the main reasons we are planning on leaving.

I was curious as to the claim about Florida being so hot so googled "florida climate" - this was the first result

Now I am led to believe some Americans don't like to be told how things work but the fahrenheit scale was originally intended that a higher number indicated hotter, or higher even :p

Just watched this video. In a nutshell he cites changes in Florida law which now allow an insurance company to commit fraud against policyholders and removes from law policyholders ability to recoup attorney fees if they sue an insurance company.

Whistleblower adjusters tell stories on how insurance companies reduces their estimates without notice to them while keeping their names on the estimate. They have also given adjusters macros that dramatically reduce repair costs.

I think I might have posted that video here a little while ago.

I've been following that channel on YouTube ever since the Surfside condo collapse. He did an excellent and very comprehensive series of videos about it and he has a lot of other videos about various engineering failures. He released the first video shortly after the Surfside collapse and he postulated on some of the possible causes. He clearly stating they were early educated guesses but he supported them with clear and detailed engineering explanations. His well informed opinions turned out to be spot on as the investigation progressed. Very impressive.

In my opinion his videos are very well done and he's very knowledgeable. If I ever had the misfortune to live in Florida and needed a consulting engineering firm I would hire him in a heartbeat.

Sheriff: (by proxy - Florida) Man arrested after 64 bricks of cocaine found on sailboat in Marathon

"Nice puppy!"
Matas Vezauskas (MCSO)
MARATHON, Fla. – A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday after authorities found nearly 170 pounds of cocaine on his sailboat during a search in Marathon, deputies said.
Matas Vezauskas, a Lithuanian national, sailed to the Keys from another country without checking in with U.S. Customs and Border Protection upon arrival, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Adam Linhardt said.
Federal authorities and deputies searched Vezauskas’ boat, docked at Burdines Waterfront Marina in Marathon, and found 64 bricks of cocaine inside, Linhardt said. The bricks weighed 167 pounds (75.8 kilograms).
Federal agents turned the case over to MCSO. Deputies arrested Vezauskas just after 7:30 p.m., according to jail records.
Vezauskas was charged with cocaine trafficking and was being held without bond.

How the heck can they pinpoint one boat once it mixes in with all the local traffic clutter, or offloads fast.

Sure they can watch it all the way across the ocean, but in close I'd think it would disappear. Even the honest ones on the way to "checking in"

I'd guess they knew, or had a tip off about the boat.

I'm probably displaying my ignorance as its been a few years since I moved more than 75 kg in one go. In the words of Miss Piggy, "never eat more than you can lift", or in this case ship.

Years ago an idiot bought a yacht in Philippines. Stacked it full of marijuana and planned on sailing it to Hong Kong. Except he didn't trust himself to sail, so asked around for crew. Three polite, short hair, well groomed fit young men agreed to do it.

Then arrested him when they got to the dock. Maybe he was from Florida...

My father owned a jewelry store for 35 years and he always wore a nice suit, tie, and topped it off with a very elegant fedora.

Men just don't do that nowadays. Think of the poor hat makers!

A few years ago for the 50th anniversary of the moon landings there were a number of documentaries shown about it and the space program. Footage of the launches were shown that included the crowds that were there to view the launch. While wearing hats was very common, baseball cap type hats were almost nonexistent. Unlike today where the baseball cap would be the overwhelming choice.
